The questions since the quarters have been very tricky too.
Title: Re: Wolfson, Monkman Post by: Newportlad on March 29, 2017, 12:11:51 AM UC has been of the highest standard this year, with some very good teams and quirky characters.
I forget the name of the team which lost on Monday, but i kept thinking that their captain, Bobby Seagull would have been good in The Apprentice. The losing team was my old college, Emmanuel, so I'm one of the few to be disappointed that Monkman (and Wolfson) made it through to the final. Anyone see this guy overwhelm Monday's Show? Correctly answered 13 starter questions. A mix of super pleased with himself and nerd under pressure. Lovely scenes.
For the record, I'm 0-4 down this series. Must be in sharp decline here given the standard of opposition. Title: Re: Wolfson, Monkman Post by: DaveShoelace on August 15, 2018, 10:25:01 AM I got 4 questions right on this week's show including all three Chris Morris bonus questions. Just saying.

Ha, thanks Barry, I've already got it on "tape", but good nudge, I'll watch it again. In the opening sequence, did you see the little segment from Michael Miles's "Take Your Pick" where they did the "Yes-No Interlude"? Title: Re: Wolfson, Monkman Post by: tikay on August 17, 2018, 07:58:47 AM Times have changed oh-so-much, & I suppose mainly for the better, but as a cheap & cheerful & completely free game we played at school, was there ever a better game than the Yes-No Interlude? Title: Re: Wolfson, Monkman Post by: DaveShoelace on August 17, 2018, 08:02:19 AM Times have changed oh-so-much, & I suppose mainly for the better, but as a cheap & cheerful & completely free game we played at school, was there ever a better game than the Yes-No Interlude? The trick is to have a bunch of alternate words like 'definitely' and 'definitely not' lined up. I recall being quite good at that at school. I went to see Paul Sinha (who is a chaser, comedian and featured a lot in that doc) do stand-up and he did a Q&A afterwards. I asked him what the secret was to retaining all the facts and he said that with few exceptions all the big quizzers memorised a lot of this stuff from an early age. Kevin Ashman had memorised state capitals and whatnot by the time he was four apparently. Along with Eric Monkman Bobby Seagull was also apparently a cult favourite among University Challenge fans when they competed for rival Cambridge colleges during the 2017 series. They also published a quiz book together in 2017.

All a bit forced, &, well, boring. The sort of thing snobs like Nirvana would claim to enjoy. Saw about 3 mins of that programme, had to turn it off and get back to 'Eat well for Less'. Title: Re: Wolfson, Monkman Post by: Supernova on October 15, 2018, 05:09:04 PM Darren wasn't impressed. I'm a bit of a Science geek and there's still alot I don't know so I found a few of the places they visited interesting. I doubt they'll get a second series unless there are radical changes.
