Title: Deal with it
Post by: shmeigle on April 18, 2017, 11:34:05 AM
I got crippled in a rather cruel fashion and busted shortly after.
As I drove home I felt really despondent.

Prior to this
I was cruising along nicely in the tournament.
Enjoying the game. Playing the game.

I'd say I was getting my fair share of good and bad cards and I was also getting my fair share of hitting and missing cards I needed. Luck seemed balanced.

Hand in question I get it all in with Kings v Queens. Opponent rivers a Queen. Another player says he folded King Queen pre flop when I 3bet.
Hand played itself.

My question is how do you deal with the disappointment, frustration and anger of this? I left feeling why do I bother. Play nearly perfect poker and then in 1 hand I get unlucky and everything preceding counts for nothing.
What are some of the tricks and methods some of you use to deal with this and similar ?

Quit live mtts and play live cash instead (or just get a new hobby if you can't deal with it full stop).  One hand doesn't make and break you then for such huge swings in live cash like it does in an MTT.  Accept than 80% of the time you play an MTT you are going to lose money that evening no matter how well you play.

I don't even see beats like that as cruel. I mean there's no skill on the part of either player to be getting it all in with Kings v Queens  I couldn't get pissed off about that even if I tried really hard

Just don't be  disappointed frustrated or angry, I never had and believe me I have had a few beats, there is nothing you can do about it, just move on.

I'm usually praying for bad beats when I'm in an MTT

I swerve the last one nowadays, because I find it affects my driving inside the casinos too much.

I can handle the bad beats although it is hugely important to be properly funded for MTT's as they're much harder to take if you aren't.

My own bad play tilts the life out of me when it happens and keeps me awake at night.

I only play in Vegas really, and I'd much rather be drinking cocktails, and drink driving my scooter ;D

Whenever I play any small tourneys on my own dime, I just punt it off. Sell some action for the bigger comps, so that I concentrate and play properly.

There is something to be said for getting it in badly all the time. At least you're never getting done up like a kipper.

I agree to an extent.
My motto used to be that. Rather give out a bad beat than receive one. And iv given out many.

As touched on BY others..... this tournament meant a lot to me and I really wanted to do well. So an appropiate bank roll would see the swings through better and That's what makes it worse. If it was just a piss willy local casino regular fish fest I would have been much less bothered.

This was in the phase 1 of the millions. I only had one ticket to play. So the stakes were high for me.
Incidentally I won my ticket by finishing 18th in a dtd200.
My exit hand in that was with blinds 15/30k
Bedi open shoves utg for 315k with KK
I call in mid pos with AQoff from a 520k stack
Slater reshives  from my left for 700k and I have to call all in
I turn an ace to get the lead and then the 1 and only card that can knock me out comes on the river

So I have history against this fucking hand and the fucking river

Why didn't you shove straight away?

Why didn't you go through the muck looking for the KQ hand that the geezer said he folded?

I didn't shove straight away as I wanted to get some more chips in the pot. That's why I 3bet.

Didn't go looking for the mucked KQ because who does that ? I just believed the played
