A midstack busts 2nd hand in, after about 15 hands I get a nice double up with JJ v A10 leaves me with a nice cushion over the short stack. We've been playing for about 45 minutes. Noone is going out of their way to bust either me or shortie. (shortie has walked his BB twice). What do you do and why. Poker Stars No Limit Holdem Tournament Blinds: t600/t1200 (Ante: t75) 8 players Stack sizes: UTG: t40105 UTG+1: t38670 MP1: t32890 MP2: t30890 CO: t34892 Button: t81888 SB: t12100 Hero: t20065 Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is BB with Qc Qh UTG folds, UTG+1 raises to t6000, 5 folds, Hero does what and why? (7th of 8) 7 seats Post by: byronkincaid on February 04, 2006, 08:38:31 PM I wouldn't fold this, it's a toss up between pushing preflop and calling and pushing any flop with no Ace or King. I almost certainly push, there's only 2 hands that beat you and you can always suck out on him if he does have one. You win this hand you're likely to go through if you fold it shorty still has 10ish BB's which is means he ain't that short really. What's your read on the raiser though? If he's a real tight player maybe I fold.

Going all-in gets rid of your positional disadvantage and your stack is big enough to force more marginal hands to fold.

However how about the flat call and then "stop and go" and push all in on a flop with no A or K? I only say that because AK may call your all in pre flop If the flop is A or K or v coordinated you can check fold if thats your feel and still be 7th of 8 with the shortie having to make his move first Title: Re: EPT $27 Rebuys sat to $650 sat. You have over 7k more than the shortest stack. Once someone busts everyone wins. Also look at the size of UTG+1's raise perhaps a bit of reverse psychology with the over raise? You're almost certainly ahead. It looks to me as though the raiser is trying to steal the pot to qualify there and then, if you fold he doesn't need to play another hand. Even if this read is wrong and you're behind a lot of players will lay down AA or KK to your all in in a sat rather than risk the outdraw that'll leave them in a bit of trouble as second short stack. If this was the first pot he had raised for ages then its a pass, if on other hand he has been raising frequently then I'm pretty sure I move in here.
All-in, i think you have the best hand here, AA or KK is unlikely to have raised 5xBB so early, AK, JJ or 1010 are most likely. I'd be wary of making this assumption. The raiser with his stack doesn't "need" action as he could realisitcally fold his way there.
