Title: What would you do?
Post by: tikay on September 01, 2017, 08:48:23 AM

You are the Police Officer responsible for crowd safety at a County Cricket match.

An arrow from crossbow is fired into the ground, it's not known from where.

Police ordered the game to be abandoned, the ground evacuated, & an armed response unit was sent for.

If you were in charge, what would you have done, & why?

don't see they had much choice. the thing has a sharp metal tip and landed 10 feet away from the batsman

you don't know if the guy is in the stands, or on the pavement outside (the stands are shallow on either side of the ground). you don't know if he has more crossbow bolts and its a big area to search inside and out the ground

I would have done exactly what he did with the reason being it was the option likely to lead to the least serious repercussions against me.

Whatever might be the sensible thing to do doesn't matter.

You've got to cover your arse and evacuate because if you don't and something goes wrong you're f**ked.

Some people will probably say he over reacted yet if he'd not reacted and let play carry on then someone had been injured he'd have been locked up for negligence.

Can't win these days unfortunately so he did what he no choice but to do.

I agree, no choice but to evacuate.

Cue review of crossbow laws, the upshot of which will be curtailment for owners, 99.9% of whom are responsible and law abiding.

On hearing the news ,I rewound the online commentary and listened for the 45 mins or so , as they tried to work out what was happening  :)

In this day and age they had no choice to act as they did. 30 years ago they would have probably blamed "south of the river urchins" and just got on with the game!

I would suggest they go and ask all the Arsenal strikers their whereabouts that day.
