If a significant hurricane hits Tampa, it could be decimated.

Overlaying an image of Irma over the state of Texas to give you an idea of the size of the hurricane.

So the Dolphins game will be cancelled on Sunday?

So the Dolphins game will be cancelled on Sunday?

two choices

a) they move it to a neutral stadium, but it has to be an NFL stadium which has replay technology etc. so atlanta, charlotte would make sense.not too far and both of those teams are away week 1. two downsides with this. miami are already minus one home game as they play in london this season so season ticket holders would only get 6 games and secondly 106 players may not want to be away from their families during a cat 5.

b) play it in week 11 when both teams are scheduled to have a bye but the downside of this is that playing 16 weeks without a break is tough, player safety and injury issues

i expect, with no really ideal option, they will move it to week 11 nov 19th

Officials haven’t heard from the tiny island of Barbuda since #Irma struck. It's been 6 hours. https://t.co/QaTJySwhtO

 :o

You'd think they would just get the fk out the way, it's not like they didn't have a few days notice to sail north/south out of the way of the likely line it will probably go.

Think I'd be reassured that such a large Cruise Liner would not be permitted to sail too close to the danger area, especially as the storm path has been widely known for several days.

She is currently well south of Irma, near Cozumel, where the weather seems fine;

Current weather in Cozumel (Sep 07, 2017)

Current weather in Cozumel
25 °C
77 °F
Current wind conditions in Cozumel
000°, 0 m/s
(0 Beaufort)
The report was made 47 minutes ago, at 08:40 UTC. The wind was calm

We were on a cruise ship when Hurricane Wilma (I think) hit Florida a few years ago.  They re-routed it during the voyage and changed the final stop to ensure we stayed well clear of it's path, so I would assume all operators would do the same thing, whilst trying to provide alternative options.

Plenty of Florida residents on the cruise trying to determine if their homes had been damaged whilst away, so there'll probably be a similar situation on your folks' cruise, but I doubt the on-board experience will be much different.

"Officials in Florida have asked 5.6m people to evacuate. The State's Governor, Rick Scott, is now warning residents to get out now, before it's too late. Please listen. Joining us now on the ground tonight in Miami is our own Steve Harrigan...." - Sean Hannity last night, typical of the odd approach of news organisations.

How long til a reporter is killed by a storm?

With the unnecessary risks they are taking, it has to happen eventually.

Definitely. I'd want more...even if I'd be a mid-ranking safety.
