Title: You can only choose three Post by: TightEnd on November 02, 2017, 11:39:08 AM Three only, for the rest of your days
which have you got to have and why? which would you have no hesitation in binning? (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DNm5SNdWAAAgePn.jpg) Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: tikay on November 02, 2017, 11:43:51 AM Three? One will do me, google, if pushed, 2, add Starbucks. The rest can all be binned, I'll not miss any of them. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: arbboy on November 02, 2017, 11:51:42 AM Three? One will do me, google, if pushed, 2, add Starbucks. The rest can all be binned, I'll not miss any of them. Same for me. Sub twitter for Starbucks. (twitter is just a good way of finding articles on subjects you are interested in for me from people in your chosen field - i don't have a twitter account myself) I have used uber once and it wouldn't be a big deal if i never used it again. I don't drink coffee so Starbucks wouldn't be a miss. As for the others i have never used any of them so wouldn't remotely miss them. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: POWWWWWWWW on November 02, 2017, 11:56:44 AM Twitter>google>>>>>amazon>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>everything else
Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Graham C on November 02, 2017, 12:23:06 PM Could live without all but Amazon (assuming it comes with all my Prime benefits), Starbucks I guess, even though I rarely go and Netflix, I don't currently have it so would be nice.
Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Jon MW on November 02, 2017, 12:43:27 PM I don't use Uber so that's easy to get rid of.
Starbucks make the occasional nice pastry but that's about it. And I don't really care about instagram - so they can go pretty easily as well. Twitter is occasionally interesting but I wouldn't care to much if it disappeared. Similarly I occasionally buy things from Amazon but wouldn't miss it if it were gone. That leaves 3 by a process of elimination - the only one I'd really miss is Google though. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: lucky_scrote on November 02, 2017, 12:50:29 PM Happily sack off FB Twitter and IG (I don't use them).
Uber for when in big cities, Amazon for my lazy shopping and Google for everything else! Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: SuuPRlim on November 02, 2017, 01:09:01 PM Google is #1 obviously, nothing else comes close, then Amazon a solid 2nd.
I think I actually use Netflix more than FB, but have Sky Box sets and amazon instant and FB is quite useful for tracking people down and making sure people you didn't like at school are not doing better than you, so I reckon I'll keep Facebook even though I don't really care for it. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Nakor on November 02, 2017, 01:12:38 PM Amazon and Google for me and Twitter if I have to choose a third.
Uber not reached the sticks yet, Starbucks and the others are not something I partake in. Facebook would be the only thing I would have to "give up" and I only really use it for sending photos of the kids to distant friends an family so wouldn't be a miss. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: atdc21 on November 02, 2017, 01:17:01 PM easy for me only use google :)
Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Graham C on November 02, 2017, 01:19:02 PM I'd like to swap Netflix or Starbucks for Google please, not fussed which.
Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: EvilPie on November 02, 2017, 02:35:13 PM Are we just talking the Google search engine or all the other good stuff such as maps, photos, emails etc.?
Either way this is the only one I'd struggle without but it would be nice to keep Facebook and Amazon as well seeing as I can. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Marky147 on November 02, 2017, 02:37:34 PM Google - Amazon - Facebook
Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Ironside on November 02, 2017, 07:45:08 PM Google is a must
facebook/amazon i could live without others i have never used or tried and abandoned Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: teddybloat on November 03, 2017, 11:06:41 AM Google and occasionally Amazon are the only two I've used in the last year or two.
The rest its either never or 4-5 years ago. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Jamier-Host on November 04, 2017, 01:24:57 AM All similar it seems. 3 would be a doddle, could easily go Google only.
Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: KarmaDope on November 05, 2017, 12:55:46 AM Google a definite must.
Amazon definitely second. Toss up between Uber & Netflix for third. Probably Netflix as I drive and dont drink. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Tractor on November 05, 2017, 09:05:31 AM Google > Amazon > Uber
Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: PokerBroker on November 05, 2017, 11:45:29 AM Google is the only must for me. I do like Amazon, it's quick, easy and handy.
I use Facebook/Twitter/Netflix and Uber but could go without them. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: Dewi_cool on November 08, 2017, 08:20:44 AM Google - Amazon - Facebook
Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: tikay on November 08, 2017, 08:41:15 AM So many people included Amazon as a must have. I've never used Amazon in my life. What exactly do they do, & why do you use them? Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: teddybloat on November 08, 2017, 08:55:23 AM I think youd be interested in the amazon story and plans for the future.
They are investigating billion in the infrastructure of the last few miles of delivery. And might end up being the dominant delivery service and also be the world's biggest shipping company. They hold a patent for floating airborne warehouses ffs. Till-free grocery stores where products have rdf chips, so when you leave the money is deducted from your Amazon account? I'm also very familiar (many will be surprised to know) with AWS, too, though it's obviously not something I use personally. Thing is, I've never purchased any "real goods" online, from anyone, ever, so I'm just curious at all these kids on this thread rating it so highly, & keen to learn why. Yes, I've purchased airline & train tickets online, that sort of thing, but if I want a book I get the train up to Foyles, if I want a pair of shoelaces I go to Tesco. Google and Amazon top 2 not sure of the order. Both companies taking over the world. Amazon just make everything so easy. Essentially a marketplace where anyone can buy or sell products (slight pain they do not accept PayPal). Ordered two 15kg bags of dog food on Saturday and because I have Amazon prime it was here Sunday plus the dog food I get is about £10 cheaper a bag than going to the shop 3 miles away that I used to get it from. Amazon Prime is essentially like Netflix but you get the added bonus of getting free next day delivery on items ordered from Amazon if its in their warehouse. FBA = Forfilled by Amazon means that anyone that wants to sell products can send it into Amazon and be kept in their warehouse until it gets sold on their website and then they will deliver it, obviously a charge for doing this or alternatively when just send it yourself but then you have to store it and arrange delivery and it would be very expensive to offer next day I.e daughter wanted an Alien egg in slime which will take 10 days to get to us as it's send from the seller not from Amazon so doesn't qualify for Prime delivery. With Prime you also gets Amazon music (unlimited music to stream) and 1 free book a month to read on your kindle. Many people make a decent living from selling on Amazon (and eBay) just from buying goods at Carboots, jumble sales, charity shops and retail arbitrage (YouTube eBay resellers). Customer service is usually second to none as well. Bought parents a 40" flat screen, year later it had broke, one phone call and it had arranged to be collected and money credited so we could buy a new one. Never happens if you by from Currys (was a store manager for many years with these) and anything over 30days would be going for repair, try telling that to someone who has spent a few £'s on a new television or any electrical goods for that matter. To be honest, can't see me wanting them any time soon. Tesco's eggs are fine. Netflix? Same question, what do they do? I thought they just streamed movies or somesuch? Pretty certain the guys that started Netflix tried to sell it in the early days to Blockbuster who in their wisdom said No. Initially that's what they did but they have evolved into content makers as well, lots of investment into Netflix Originals rather than just streaming licensed content. Next year they will invest $8 billion on original content alone. Something else that I pretty certain they have pioneered is the fact that the have started releasing original content seasons at a time rather than episode at a time which means your day off becomes one long binge fest of Narcos rather than waiting every week, I want it now society 😁 Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: tikay on November 08, 2017, 11:42:09 AM Gotcha. Title: Re: You can only choose three Post by: teddybloat on November 09, 2017, 09:41:57 PM there's a couple of Amazon hacks people might find useful.
any CD yiu have bought from them can be downloaded using Amazon music. I lost a shit tonne of music during a house move about 7 years ago. Any of the cds I had bought as new (ie not resold) I could download for free. And they had everything from when I joined in 2003 or summat silly. Their returns policy is the nuts. Virtually no quibble. The missus sent back a £160 fitness tracker after 6minths of use just because she didn't like how it recorded heart rate. We'd lost the original strap. E-mailed us a return label, we boxed it took it to the local newsagent and as soon as he scannednit we got an e-mail confirming our refund would be processed. But there's a policy that not many know about: if you request a refund for an item costing under £10 they won't even ask you to send it back. It's cheaper for them to let you keep the item. Which they do in the vast majority of cases |
