Title: Red Card for Carragher?
Post by: tikay on March 12, 2018, 03:48:27 PM

Looks like Jamie Carragher is in big trouble with his employers at Sky Sports.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43376262

If you were his boss at Sky, how would you handle this?

1) Move on its no big deal

2) Give him a good bollocking

3) Tin tack?

And "why"?

Probably b. Stupid and I think he knows it. Chance to apologise and told to sort himself out.

If you are the mum of the kid do you

a/ slap your husband silly for risking her life driving on a motorway dicking about with a mobile phone.

b/ slap your husband silly for indulging in the slagging while he's got the kid & opening the window when your daughter asks him not to.

c/ cringe at being married to the type of arsehole who taunts and slags someone then runs to the press when they react.

Has to be sacked surely?  Bad enough doing this on the pitch.  Literally no excuse at all for doing that in his position to anyone no matter how much shit he was getting.    Can't believe the ultra corporate slick sky organisation could ever be seen to take any of the other two options surely?  He is easily replaceable and hardly their number 1 pundit by any means.

Think that's my general reaction to it all. Give him a bollocking and get on with it, was never a chance of getting sprayed from that distance anyway. Driver of the car is an arsehole.

Shame, as I always enjoyed seeing him and Neville dig each other out.

Hard to beleive what they have been discussing all day and the decision wasn't made by lunchtime?  Tough to win an unfair dismissal case in a public role when you spit in a random guys face caught on camera!

I personally think the guy who shot the vid should be getting at least as much shit for driving while filming and being a general twat tbh! People think they can do and say stupid shit without consequence these days, that’s wrong!

ABC

I've always thought Carragher was a dick and that goes double after this, but the driver is the one at fault (more so) here. My missus is on the motorway all day tomorrow for work stuff and it worries me more people are driving with a phone in their hands than any scummy thing a millionaire does out of his car window.

Also this whole bloody gotcha culture where everyone is just waiting for somebody to slip up so we can put it on social media destroy their careers is getting really tedious. Bollock him and move on.

scousers going to scouse.  For all the slick sky presentation of Carragher with the sharp suits and slick hair cuts he is still a scouser.  Could you ever imagine Gary Neville doing what JC did ?  Literally no chance.

There was no abuse as the guy's young daughter was in the passenger seat and the driver/dad/video-er just kept saying "2-1 Gary 2-1" having wound the window down.

It was a massive over-reaction unless something happened off camera.

Carragher- sack no question. People have to learn that their actions have consequences. Spitting is disgusting and dangerous. (would you want him representing your business?)

Taunting driver should get points on his licence.

Def think he should get the sack for various reasons already stated. Just absolutely brainless of Carragher. The guy is pointing a camera at him and he still spits at him. Having said that I can see him just getting a slap on the wrist. His partnership with G Nev is one of Sky Sports' main drawing points. They didn't sack Kirsty Gallagher when she got arrested for drink driving, cos obv people like seeing fit birds on the tele. To a more extreme extent Marcos Alonso actually killed someone while drink driving a couple of years ago. No jail, just a fine and slap on the wrist and people don't have a problem with him turning out for Chelsea every week. Nothing ever said in the media. Think Sky are hoping it blows over and people forget about it in the general public. He's fucked it on social media forever now though.

Knowing a little about sky in these types of situations, I think he is struggling here, corporately, to keep his position

100% sacked imo.

If Keys and Gray went, and these are the snowflake years, then there's pretty much no choice.

Craig Bellamy next cab off the rank?

If it was the BBC, it would be Clare Balding obv. Or Romesh Ranganathan.

Bizarre and disgusting. Clearly, Sky can sack him if they so choose.

Thompson and Gallagher both kept their jobs after drink driving offences. The latter was 3 x the drink driving limit at 11 in the morning and on her way to pick-up her children and that is 100 x worse than spitting in my opinion.

Good chance Carragher stays IMO. Unlike Keys and Gray (who they wanted out) it strikes me they don't wan't to lose Carragher. Hence he has been free today for multiple apology interviews on the Beeb, ITV and Sky whilst they test public opinion. Support for him by some of his media chums as well.

I've found that I don't get much aggro, now I don't act like a helmet. That said, I almost got into my first fight for 10 years last summer in Vegas, when some pissed up brit decided he wanted a row. Would have been quite interesting, considering I can't move without crutches :D

I don’t ever get any aggro, especially since I stopped playing poker, it was people pulling fast ones I couldn’t help but say something to, had a lot of close calls but nothing ever happened. Closest was in Vegas a few years back, jeeezzzzz thought it was going to happen and I doubt it would have ended well for me in hindsight lol but hey ho......

Not sure why everyone is jumping up and down about 11am.  Just means she was driving after heavy night before. Surely that is better than people who drive to pub and drive same evening?

Surely she must have been drinking til the early hours given she was three times over the limit.  So this is more like having a skinful at lunch and driving home from work?  I am struggling to believe she was unaware she was unfit to drive whatever she did, and going to pick up the kids makes it worse.  I put this quite a way over spitting.

Not going to excuse Carragher, but watched the video a few times yesterday and am not at all convinced the passenger got a face full of spit.   If he gets sacked, I am losing no sleep, as it was pretty disgusting regardless.

Not sure why everyone is jumping up and down about 11am.  Just means she was driving after heavy night before. Surely that is better than people who drive to pub and drive same evening?

How is having 4 pints at 8-11pm and driving straight home 3 times over the limit any better/different from having 14 pints the night before and still being 3 times over the limit the next morning at 11am?  There is no difference between the two.  You are still driving three times over the limit.  As Doobs said she would have to have been totally smashed the night before to still be three times over the limit 12 hours later and knew exactly she was in no fit state to drive, never mind collect her children.

Bizarre and disgusting. Clearly, Sky can sack him if they so choose.

I agree.  But I have more sympathy for someone being over the limit in the morning than someone driving home from the pub.

Because it’s harder to judge.  If you go to the pub and drive you know for certain you are over limit.  In any case my poInt is why are people stressing 11am as if it is somehow worse than the pub drink driver.

I don't think Kirsty Gallagher was there times over from the night before (she very conveniently let photos of her drinking the night before be shown on twitter to make people think it was from then)! VERY unlikely she would still be that drunk at that time, she may still be over the limit but not THREE times over. I think she HAS a drink problem and had PROBABLY had a top-up in the morning before picking the kids up! She has been suspected of being pissed whilst presenting Sky sports before!
Its Carragher's only chance of saving his job as he could point at Gallagher and say you didn't sack her.
Don't personally think he can continue though, imagine any time he slags some player/manager off they just refer to the spitting incident. he won't have a leg to stand on.

It is also playing into the media battles, the story was first in the sun who are basically banished from Liverpool, his front page defence was in the mirror who is owned by trinity who also own the Liverpool Echo.

The Sun / Sky are basically Murdoch so will ultimately depend on what that corporate entity wants.

Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher has been suspended by Sky until the end of the football season after he spat at a car on Saturday.

Carragher apologised over the incident, which was filmed by a motorist.

The broadcaster says the 40-year-old, a Sky Sports pundit, will "get the help he needs to guarantee something like this never happens again".

His role with Sky will be discussed "before the start of the next season".

Get help? Roffle.

Poor Jamie, he's just an innocent Spitting Addict, it's not his fault, he can't help it.

What does this now mean!!!

Lets hope this blows over by the start of the new season then we will pretend nothing happened?

Can you imagine Joses reply after Carragher has given him a hard time

Its always going to be open for retaliation

Carragher/Nev verbal battles are getting boring now.  Nev is clearly the better one of the two.  Carra has served his purpose.  His voice grates massively.  Time for him to go for me even without this happening. Frank Lampard perfect slick replacement for sky and an upgrade on Carra in every sense.  Would fit in well alongside Nev as a North/South contrast.

I don't really understand why SKy haven't pulled the plug long term already?  It does sound like 'go away for 6 months and come back and everyone will have forgotten' from sky.

Sky says the decision was made following an internal review, adding: "Before the start of the next season we will sit down with Jamie to discuss whether he is ready to return to his role."

That says his role is there for him, no sacking

He isn't going to turn the job down

He would rock up tonight if he had the chance

Hmmmmmm now what does he hold over somebody!!
