Title: Bluffing
Post by: NoflopsHomer on February 07, 2006, 01:54:11 AM
I've always found it interesting that they're aren't as many hand analysis threads around working a bluff. So I thought I'd try out one myself. Bamford had seemed a very fishy player, min-raising with a lot of hands in various positions, and the fact that he called a lot of flop bets but folded to many turn and river bets. (Notwithstanding the fact that about 10 hands later he knocked me out with AA vs KK after he limped after 3 other limpers and I raised!). Comment, criticise all you want please. I don't think we have enough threads about blondes being the bluffer.

Very fishy? I think this is pretty good play early on in a tourney :D Probably not the sort of player I'd be trying to bluff at this stage and with him having so many chips.

Anyway this is just a blind v blind game of chicken. He's probably trying to represent the flush but you put an end to that by going all in. He should have pushed first on the turn.

Personally this is too early for me to try this sort of move but aggression is good and it worked so nice play.

Wasn't it 85off you had on Simon Trumper's blind? :D

That was a value bet, I knew what was coming.

Small point but it wasn't his blind. He came over the top of me in middle position with KJo.
He knew with a high degree of cetainty that I had absolute trash. I may have doubled up, but it sure as hell shut me up. (Well, it would have if I weren't a jock on a mission)

Come on, this wasn't a proper bluff, you had the gutshot straight draw ...

Ok, no-one else going to do take this one?

Just for you ifm, a "bluff" is a steep headland, promontory, riverbank, or cliff.

Moritzey is right, this was only a half bluff, but I guess that most of the time this would probably be the case, when you go all in you want to represent the strongest hand and if you do get called you usually want at least a couple of outs.

The only problem with an all in move bluff IMO is that it can be a sign of weakness/bullying as you are trying to get people off of the pot which if you had a strong hand you wouldn’t really want to do…..unless of course you wanted me to think you were weak, so I guess it comes down to your opponent getting the right read on you.

Here's a 100%er bluff.  The guy was playing weakly after flops and i felt i could win most pots against him. Hilariously the guy said, nh, then Kings, before folding and me showing. :D

I almost called someone in a huge pot last night on the river because i just knew he was bluffing but sadly i bottled it with ace high and showed me the bluff after i congratulated him on it and folded.

The moral was don't give up after getting called on the turn, lump the rest in on the river as he still might fold.
