Title: Reverse Sheep Quiz: Lockdown Edition 2
Post by: Cf on April 08, 2020, 05:30:06 PM
10 questions.

No google or other research.

Score for each question is amount of people who gave the same correct answer. Similar answers may be grouped together where appropriate.

Lowest score wins.

Wrong answer? Lots of points. (For nerds: highest scoring correct answer + half rounded up of unique correct answers)

You get 1 pass - you will score 0 for that question. If you don't use it and still win then you can feel really proud of yourself.

PM me your answers.

Reveal: Tuesday 14th April at 8pm

1. An MP who has spoke at a daily coronavirus briefing (you know the ones I mean)
2. A television programme presented by Noel Edmonds
3. A football team from League 2 or up who are currently top or in the promotion/playoff spots
4. An "unelected" prime minister of the UK (e.g. took office after resignation of previous)
5. An actor/actress to receive title screen billing in Doctor Who from 2010 onwards
6. A reason to find Mike Ashley objectionable
7. Something you might do outside in this lovely weather taking social isolation rules into account
8. A pub brand/brewery who own/run at least, let’s say, 20 pubs (so not your local microbrewery)
9. A human sense
10. You are walking down the street and find some money on the floor. How much are you willing to keep for yourself before you hand it to the police, donate to charity, or similar? Choose: £0, £5, £10, £20, £50, £100, £500, £1,000, £10,000, £Lots. People will judge you based on this answer.

And already we potentially have controversy. The question never stated “up until” so I’m happy to accept answers up to and including today. So you might think there was an advantage in waiting… unless others had the same idea…

How is "swap shop" a correct answer when it was called Multi coloured swap shop??

Are you saying if you asked for a comedy programme, nine O'clock news would have been correct when obviously the answer is "Not the nine O'clock news"?

What an absolute farce (am I doing this correct, first time of entering)?

A pretty open ended question and so anything goes really. There were some duplicated answers though with Gutierrez a surprising one.

6. A reason to find Mike Ashley objectionable

CORRECT ANSWERS

HE’S A TWAT - 2
KarmaDope: He's a *****, obv.
Pokerpops: I’m tempted to offer ‘He’s a fat *****’, but will resist because he may have a health problem that makes him fat. So, my official answer is ‘he’s a *****’

TREATMENT OF JONAS GUTIERREZ - 2
dino1980: His treatment of Jonas Guiterrez
HutchGF: Discrimination against Jonas Gutuirrez after he was diagnosed with cancer. The abhorent prick was found guilty and fined approx 2m for it

HAIR STYLE - 2
bobAlike: Hair style

MISC ACES - 1
MintTrav: Think that's the Sports Direct guy, so I'll say he pays wages that are too low.
Ironside: he opens his mouth
Chompy: Furloughing
TightEnd: Owner of Sports direct
stribling: hes fat
arbboy: he doesn't bet with me
celtic: Because he hasn't sent Rangers skint yet

Sports Direct answers should be grouped IMO.

I was going to but decided they're all slightly different. The Furloughing answer would fall under the same group if so.

By that logic Wise and Bruce could be grouped.

I decided it was a "fun" question and to be pretty liberal with allowing aces.

A bit more straightforward this one and yet another question with loads of answers. Interestingly no passes here - and everyone was correct.

Lloyds nearly got whaled with Wetherspoons but they do run it as a separate brand so it squeaks through.

8. A pub brand/brewery who own/run at least, let’s say, 20 pubs (so not your local microbrewery)

This question isn’t quite as narrow as it appears. There’s a handful of less obvious answers too - but none of them given.

The biggest talking points are the wrong answers.

9. A human sense

CORRECT ANSWERS

SMELL - 4
redsimon: smell
stribling: Smell

TOUCH - 3

SIGHT - 2

TASTE - 2

HEARING - 1
4KSuited: Hearing

WRONG ANSWERS

JUSTICE - 7
MintTrav: Justice

COMMON - 7
Ironside: common
bobAlike: Common

Afraid not with the above two. Pokerpops knew the score with his change. They’re not senses.

SYNESTHESIA - 7
HutchGF: The ability to sense sounds as colours ( by people with synethesia)

I’m sorry. I really wanted to allow this. But I just can’t find any evidence that it itself can be considered a sense. I am open to evidence otherwise but my reading states this is perception of on sense as another being a sense itself.

Common sense" has at least two philosophical meanings. One is a capability of the mind to perceive things like movement and size. The second is our natural sense for other humans and the community. Both of these refer to a type of basic awareness and ability to judge.

reading the question again I'd probably go lower - nearest charity box or homeless person likely to be the beneficiary - I'm quite a guy tbf

so you find a £50 note outside a casino away from CCTV and you would put £30 in a charity bottle and keep £20 to yourself?

i donate regularly and used to host fund raisers, if i found at £50 note i would say cool beans pop it in my pocket and check i am not on candid camera.
then next time i am passing a charity tin  i might drop in an extra few quid
cant say its ever happened think most i have ever found on the floor is £1 coin

If you ask a vague question, you can't insist on narrowly-defined answers. If you are going to insist on such answers, you need to ask tight questions.

"A human sense" doesn't specify that it has to be a physical sense.

Humans have many other senses. The Cambridge Dictionary gives some examples:
sense of urgency
sense of fun
sense of humour
sense of occasion
sense of right and wrong
sense of togetherness
sense of betrayal
sense of responsibility
sense of despair

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/sense

If you had specified that it had to be a physical sense, I would have directed you to an article in The New Scientist entitled "Sense of justice discovered in the brain", but you didn't, so any of the human senses above are valid answers, as is sense of justice.

https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn10239-sense-of-justice-discovered-in-the-brain/

Thank you.

If you can substitute the word ‘feeling’ for sense then it’s not a sense.

Perfectly wrong - that is exactly one of the definitions in the dictionary. Did you even look at the link?

sense noun
B2 - an ability to understand, recognize, value, or react to something, especially any of the five physical abilities to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel:
B1 - a general feeling or understanding

Apologies, just catching up now.

I'm calling FARCE.... it is well documented that people with synthesia can sense colours when listening to music!!!

I therefore conclude it is a human sense!

Get my ace up.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromesthesia

'They perceive colour alongside their normal auditory sensations.'

I mean the opening line of Synesthesia literally reads

Synesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway

It's not a sense itself and I really liked the answer :(

The very definition of a sense is the perception of a stimulus......

Sense:
'a faculty by which the body perceives an external stimulus; one of the faculties of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.'

Colour is a sight, triggered by an external stimulus (sound).

It would make sense to view it as a sense surely :)

You might be right looking at your links. When decided whether to allow them or not I jumped over to wikipedia and over there couldn't find any evidence that would describe "common" or "justice" as senses. More that they're learned behaviours. Your article was interesting.

Could the question have been less vague? I suppose. But then we don't want questions being paragraphs and paragraphs and ultimately boiling down to "there's a documented top 10 list at this link BUT DONT LOOK AT IT please choose one of them".

I don't just disallow answers out of spite. I like clever answers but my own instinct (sense?) was they weren't senses. And the limited amount of reading I did didn't change my opinion on that. Had those links been posted during the reveal I would probably have allowed them. Ironside's effort wasn't enough by itself.
