Title: Where does my dough go?
Post by: RED-DOG on May 30, 2022, 05:42:19 PM
Say my BR on Stars is $10 and I play a $1 Spin and Go with a prize pool of $2. If I win my BR should now be $11 but is actually $10.98. Where did my 2c go?

Win or lose I keep getting robbed. A cent here a cent there, sometimes a 25c buy in costs 26c. I'm mean, what the actual fuck?

I have never noticed, have you tried turning it off and on again?

Is you currency set up oddly?  Have you asked customer services?  I know this suggestion can end badly, but it might be a common problem.

I didn't notice for the first 20 years.

My account is in £.

If your account is in £££ when you play a tournament in $$$ it automaticlly does the exchange for you but if it isn't an exact amount it rounds it up in their favour.

The exchange rate is roughly 81.1p to the $1.

But they will take 82p from your acccount.

And if you win $2 they will pay you £1.64 (this time taking .2p for the transaction)

IIIRC this rounding up/down was the storyline of one of the Superman movies

EDIT: yes it was Superman 3 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_III

The practice has a name apparently: Salami Slicing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salami_slicing_tactics#Financial_fraud

Mind boggling to think how much they make per year with this under hand practice.

Imagine if you are a lesser known site that can only pay you crypto - but they take 7 dyas to process a withdrawal and you seem to keep getting the 7day low when you withdraw.

Missed the answer.  Probably isn't so noticeable if you play $10 games.  Things like this seem so insignificant for the profit of the business (guessing they make a quarter of a cent on average on $1 rake), but look so bad for the reputation when you notice.   Just take it to the nearest cent ffs.

and lol at choosing to play on those bitcoin sites.  Just so many ways to lose your money.

I think I've solved it.

Instead of allowing it to convert my £ to $ and back every spin and go game I just convert a (small) dollop all at once. that way if there is any rounding down its only like, a percent of a cent on £20 instead of on every 25p.

Thanks to Keith for the heads up.
