Title: How much mark-up is too much? Post by: AlrightJack on May 30, 2025, 08:20:06 AM How much mark-up is appropriate when you’re selling action? Should you charge more to your friends on facebook than you would be likely to charge on an open marketplace/staking site?
Would you back someone at 1.5 mark-up? I’ve written an article about this, interested to hear other views on this. Keith, what’s your take on how much is both reasonable and fair? Obviously it’s an open market and people are free to choose whether to back someone or not, but are friends being gouged by sellers overcharging those who they know are likely to buy regardless of the mark-up? https://www.poker.pro/poker-news/wsop/wsop-2025/uk-players-selling-action-at-the-2025-wsop/ Title: Re: How much mark-up is too much? Title: Re: How much mark-up is too much? Post by: tikay on May 30, 2025, 02:43:31 PM Morning Mr R, great to see you back amongst us. Without wishing to derail your thread, I happened across this recently, which amused & intrigued me in equal measure... It was on the WSOP+ App. I bet GG/WSOP never realised their shiny new App would end up being used/abused like that. Title: Re: How much mark-up is too much? Post by: tikay on May 30, 2025, 02:45:16 PM I mean, it begs SO many questions. A player who has the gall to make that "offer" is almost certainly capable of selling 200% of himself. And not pay anyone out. And, most remarkably, I bet he DOES sell it all. Title: Re: How much mark-up is too much? Post by: bagel on May 30, 2025, 02:57:13 PM on GG there are many people selling at 1.7 up to 2.0 every sunday . people buy it because all they see is matey has 2M winnings . its not profit , just prizes won .
complete freeroll to play loads of decent size buy ins every week. a fool and his money ..... people pay over the odds for pretty much anything you can mention , whether its a car , a burger , a hotel room or a russian donk i dont blame the sellers at all to be honest , all they are doing is getting the best price that they can , if you buy something and are happy with the price , thats on you . Title: Re: How much mark-up is too much? Post by: Doobs on May 30, 2025, 08:52:14 PM Saw some Russian selling for $5 10BB hypers at 2.0 on GG the other day. If ever there was a tournament that was difficult to get a double figure ROI it was this one.
Of those in the article, I would only look at Benny Glaser. Have played him a lot and he is clearly very good, but 1.35 in a 10k feels at the level where it is tough to make a profit for stakers. Don't think it is far off right though. By contrast, I don't think many can cover a 1.3 to 1.5 markup in hold'em now. I can't see the games, but the game is really tough these days. If they are selling more than 50% it feels bad. I did consider selling O8 with markup, and am probably good for it, but can't really do it, and if I did 1.4 for hold'em, I'd feel like I was conning people. If you think it is ok, why hide your schedule? I noticed Kessler was doing 1.00 for 10ks, which might be optimistic, but he isn't really far from his worth there. And I think he isn't that great, but he isn't Mike the Mouth in at 1.3. I think I'd take Kessler in an even bet in that match up. And why take The Mouth when you can back Benny Glaser at the same price? Even if The Mouth was on a good day? Anyway good luck to them. If anything, some of these in my games wouldn't be playing if it wasn't for overpriced staking, so shouldn't grumble too much. |
