Title: "The War is Won" in Iran? Post by: EssexPhil on March 08, 2026, 09:40:00 AM The orange man-baby has pronounced that the War is won v Iran.
I appreciate that he has no actual experience of Conflict, having been too cowardly to fight for his Country in Vietnam. I also appreciate that a morbidly obese 80-year-old man may have a different perspective on how long the future lasts. But someone really needs to learn from history, and learn that winning Battles is totally different from winning Wars. Or, indeed, winning the Peace afterwards. The Middle East has been a Battleground for thousands of years. Long before the West felt so Guilty about its appalling persecution of Jews via the Holocaust that it felt the need to give someone else's land away to say sorry. Much is made of the likely "regime change" in Iran. Here are 2 alternative "regime changes" that are equally likely:- 1. Various Gulf States now have 3 classes of Citizen. A tiny number of Billionaires. A small number of foreigners, treating a Country as a playground. And the desperately poor 95%. Wondering why the massive wealth never goes anywhere near them. Wondering why their Muslim leaders are assisting the traditional enemies of the US and Israel slaughtering Muslims. If you are part of the Majority in 1 of those states, regime change, even the chance to have a Democratic vote, might sound mighty tempting 2. Israel. There will be a new general election later this year. Where the Left, who were in Power less than 4 years ago, are going to Stand for Election, comparing and contrasting the lives of Israeli citizens before and after 2022. Back to the days ot a 2 State solution PS. For the most part, I admire people of Faith. Christian, Jewish, and Muslim. What I do not admire are Religious Fundamentalists. And that is equally true for the current leadership of Iran and Israel Title: Re: "The War is Won" in Iran? Post by: Karabiner on March 08, 2026, 10:32:54 AM Some excellent points there Phil.
There's also considerable religious fundamentalist influence in The White House too. Title: Re: "The War is Won" in Iran? Post by: EssexPhil on March 08, 2026, 11:59:20 AM Completely agree. As a side note, it always bugs me when people refer to Jewish influence on the US Govt. It is not the religion of influence that is important, but the Politics. Hence Jewish people who dare to disagree with the current regime in Israel are being told they are not Jewish.
Just to use Saudi as an example-which is 1 of the wealthiest and West-friendly countries in the Region. No elections since 2015. Their Parliament is only allowed to give advisory comments to the Speaker, who is appointed by the King, and is invariably related. No legislative power. Political Parties are all banned. Minimum Wage is about $1,000 a month-no limit on hours for that, and does not apply to people not born there. Women first allowed to vote in 2015 and not allowed to hold the vast majority of jobs. Progress is being made-women have been allowed to drive for nearly 10 years now. There is more than 1 type of Muslim Fundamentalist Rule. We appear to have no issue with the ones that let in expats... |
