Title: Decisions decisions Post by: Mr F on February 14, 2006, 09:13:43 AM OK if possible I'd like people's opinions on this one. You have two choices for the weekend of the 18th and 19th march.
Choice 1 You're a member of a poker forum who have organised a tournament for their members in Glasgow. It's the second time they have done this, you went to the first one and had a fantastic time and know that the next one will be just as good, possibly better. It won't cost too much providing you book early enough. The only downfall being taking a day off work. Choice 2 You have a mate who is a boxer. He has a match in Monte Carlo on the 18th. You can apparently get flights and acco for £170. You've known the guy since he turned pro, people in the boxing world have high hopes for his career. There are only a handful of people going but it promises to be a pretty good night. The fight is being broadcast live on Eurosport ao you may be able to catch it. So my dilemma, any opinions welcome. Thanks Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Graham C on February 14, 2006, 09:31:23 AM toughy,
Will your mate be disapointed if you don't go? Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Mr F on February 14, 2006, 10:04:16 AM No, I don't think he'll mind too much. Truth be told I've not seen him fight as a pro yet, something has always got in the way. But I've done him a few favours iand used to train with him.
Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Ironside on February 14, 2006, 10:09:33 AM come to glasgow watch the fight on the tv and goto his next fight in london
Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: ifm on February 14, 2006, 10:13:28 AM Monte Carlo, don't even consider Glasgow!!
Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: pokerdave69 on February 14, 2006, 10:15:01 AM Ferny baby you gotta come glasgow, lets face it you are not going to last long in the £30 double chance freezeout anyway so when your knocked out after 4 or 5 hands have a word with the sort behind the bar (every casino has a sort behind the bar) give her a bit of flattery and ask her very nicely to put eurosport on. Problem solved. If your mate is as good as what it sounds like it will probably only last a round or 2 anyway, and besides i have just got a good deal on a room :D GLASGOW GLASGOW
Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: madasahatstand on February 14, 2006, 10:53:01 AM Although Id tell most people to come to Glasgow as its the best city in the world barring none, on this occassion, monte carlo is a must because theres a pal involved. the blonde bash might happen again in Glasgow, but your pal may never fight in monte carlo again. besides monte carlo is a fantastic place to be and might put some heat in your bones while you are there. also, plenty of casinos there

Don't forget, each beer you buy will cost a similar amount! Total outlay for the night = re-mortgage. So, on the basis that you'll have no memory of either event after 9.30pm ish I'd go for the cheaper, and vastly more fun, option in Glasgow! Sheriff Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Mr F on February 14, 2006, 11:37:26 AM So, on the basis that you'll have no memory of either event after 9.30pm ish
What exactly are you trying to say Sheriff!!?? Just out of interest can someone give me an impression of how expensive it actually is over there? Cheers Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Sheriff Fatman on February 14, 2006, 11:50:56 AM I distinctly remember a conversation early doors at the Broadway in which you said you weren't going to drink on doctors advice.
I remember another one at around 2am which went along the lines of "Allllllllrrrrraaaaaaaaahhhhhhh S'riff, great niiiiiiiiighhhht. Arrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh uuuuu haaaaavin' a goooood ..............." (sound of Mr F's face hitting floor, followed by snoring). Sheriff Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: pokerdave69 on February 14, 2006, 11:55:19 AM As a rough outline of prices, A few of my mates went out there for a holiday a while ago but one of them forgot to pack his boxers or pants (aint got a clue what he wears) so he went round monte carlo looking fo a pair could not find anything like marks & spencers and ended up paying near on £30 for 1 pair the moral of the story if you go to monte carlo pack your pants if you come to glasgow pack your pants aswell, but if your in glasgow and you forget them you will only have to pay £5 Plus Glasgow bash will be more of a laugh trust me ( coz after the last 2 months i've had i've got some wicked stories to tell)
Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Mr F on February 14, 2006, 12:58:31 PM Sheriff, it wouldn't stand up in court. I'd already had three pints by the time I got to Broadway, I probably said that I'd been advised not to drink but that Mel had bullied me into it. As for the falling on floor asleep, it was a table and in the hotel well after 2!! lol
Now you see why I would never drink at cheesey!!! Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: BlueWolf on February 14, 2006, 02:26:00 PM gotta be glasgow, watch the fight on eurosport and make sure you text ya mate as soon as the fights over. MC is a bit too houty Touty anyway, wait till ya mate hits it big which dont sound too far away and go watch him in vegas
Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: dik9 on February 14, 2006, 05:50:58 PM Why go to Monte Carlo to watch one fight and spend loads of doh. When you can go to Glasgow and watch all the free ones after kick out time, play poker and get pished for cheap?
Seriously though as said in previous post, how many times are you gonna get to see your mate fight there? Gotta be Monte Carlo, but you thought Broadways beer was expensive? :D Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Indestructable on February 14, 2006, 06:10:39 PM Don't forget the norkage in Glasgow, has to be cheaper than in Monte Carlo.

I remember you at the Marriot bar cringing when all i wanted was a hot coffee, and i ended up buying a round for 3 strangers , just because a loud London poker girl(slightly pissed i might add) shouted at me from across the bar " I know you ,you play poker , come over here and join us"............that fu*king cofee cost me £20.............and you want to go to Monte Carlo.............anyhow you owe me a drink !!!! Who am i going to talk to , when all them lot start talking poker b*llocks........yawn..., there's only so many women i can hit on till they all tell me to p*ss off. Cupcake. Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Mr F on February 15, 2006, 10:07:56 AM Right, I left work yesterday almost convinced it was going to be Monte Carlo.
I pretty much confirmed that with Gareth's trainer last night. Then I come in today and find more reasons for both sides. I have to make a decision on this either way by end of work today 16:00. (you may have figured that I used to be indecisive and now I just can't make up my mind) So what to do? Monte Carlo Since I met Gareth a year and a half ago I've followed his career closely. I had the priviledge of training with him while I was trying to get fit/lose weight. I went to his last amateur fight, he was scheduled to fight Amir Khan, it was just after the Olympics and Khan had to pull out due to "too much publicity work". Khan turned up though to parade his medal etc. The highlight of the night was him in the ring just after Gareth had won, Khan was holding up the medal as three tables started chanting "Couchy, Couchy". Most amusing. Since then I've seen him a fair bit, he's often in the pub (his trainer is landlord) and there's been a few times he's asked me to help him with stuff for the local paper. We even managed to get him doing the half time draw and Wycombe Wanderers one week. I've missed his other fights due to commitments and I don't really want to miss another. The people I'm going with are a great laugh, they're all George boys and I think most of them look on me as a little brother. They all rib me and take the mickey but would never do it if they thought it upset me. They're the sort of blokes who would do anything for me if I needed it and I know if I went with them it would be an amazing night. The two downpoints I can think of are that it's going to be expensive, very expensive, and I'll be missing the blonde bash. One last thought on Monte Carlo. I spoke to another bloneite the other day to find out if he wanted to go to the bash, if he wanted to I was definitely going to Glasgow. He said no he couldn't make it. When I told him of my choices he just said "you can play poker anytime, Monte Carlo is a bit special" I'll post about the bash next. EDIT: Forgot to mention, someone has to look after his gorgeous girlfriend while he's fighting. Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: yt on February 15, 2006, 11:20:13 AM Long term friend Vs Forum buddys.
MONTE CARLO Vs Glasgow. Bikini clad rich babes vs Rab C Nesbits wife. Go see your friend for Christ's sake. Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Mr F on February 15, 2006, 01:37:11 PM The Blonde Bash
There's not much else to say about the bash that I haven't already said. The last one was amazing definitely contender for weekend of the year already! I met some great people and would love to see them again but also meet the people who didn't make the last one, the people I didn't speak to at the last one, the people I did speak to but can't remember from the last one! I was planning to offer my services to help with the updating again as I really enjoyed it. A lot fo the comments really surprised me and it was cool to have Cupcake and Pokerdave telling me to come along. Also was looking forward to searching out a table tennis table, I want to show Cupcake hows it's done properly!! There really aren't any downsides, it will be cheaper obviously, but I'll be missing Gareths fight. Cheers Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Mr F on February 15, 2006, 04:05:22 PM "Mr F,

Anyway, it looks like it's gonna be Monte Carlo for me, just have to thrash out the details tonight. If you don't make it, I am planning to make a trip to Glasgow later in the year as i am away for this one as well. Perhaps we can have a mini bash for those missing the official bash? Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Ironside on February 15, 2006, 07:02:24 PM seemingly there is a £100 freezeout every month starting on the 26th of this month so i think we could make amini bash round one of the freezeouts

Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: Jinky04 on February 16, 2006, 04:49:11 PM Life is good if all you have to worry about is what party to travel to........
Much as I love Glasgow and you would have a cracking time, if your pal's involved you need to go see him fight. Although having said that you will see a lot more fighting in Glasgow........ ;hide; *Here's a nicer photo as well [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Decision made Post by: Mr F on February 17, 2006, 09:33:11 AM Well after lots of discussion and deliberation I have decided that it's got to be Monte Carlo. I am gutted to miss the Bash but realistically I may never get a chance to go to MC again, whereas I will get many more opportunities to see the delights of Glasgow. So I'm afraid that's one fish out already and fortunately one less drunk.
So have fun at the bash and if you turn on eurospsort you'll probably see me and my mates running across the ring!! Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: lazaroonie on February 17, 2006, 10:44:58 AM I hope your mate is sorting you out good ringside seats for the sacrifices you are making.....
Title: Re: Decisions decisions Post by: charmaine on February 17, 2006, 11:43:59 AM Hope you have a great time Mr F , remember there will be plenty more blonde bashes :) i hope !!
