me and my friends have just been getting into setting up websites and i have the best solution for you. to register a domain name of .co.uk go straight to www.1and1.co.uk and get one for £1.99 its so easy for real web-hosting i use http://www.letzebuerg.net/ dont be fooled by the amateur looking website these guys are really reliable and always on hand to help and you can host a small website for 0.42 euros a month - you have to buy a years worth its about £3 insanely cheap and you get lots of add-ons and extras. I dont think you can beat that set-up at all and its very easy to do - i build my websites on macromedia dreamweaver and use letzebuerg's own uploading feature (very quick, easy and web based) So basiucally you can quote them £5 a year! Let me know how you get on! :)up Title: Re: advice from the techy amongst you Post by: AceofWands on February 15, 2006, 12:05:26 AM I got a free domain name and webhosting for myself and for several others through Freenetname. http://www.freenetname.co.uk
I have used the service for six years without any probs. The deal is for a free domain name, webhosting and email domain you need to use their 0845 dial up service at least once a month, or as an alternative you can pay £20 a year and not have that requirement. If at some time you want to transfer the name to another webhost it costs a £25 release fee. You can have .co.uk , .org.uk , domains. But only one free domain name can be allocated to each postal address/landline phone number. Since it costs nothing you are not really risking much trying it out. You could always host it yourself if you have a spare pc that you dont mind being on 24/7 Title: Re: advice from the techy amongst you Post by: Liam on February 16, 2006, 06:02:19 PM £5 a year no hidden charges my way is better - Challenge of the techies ;technophobe;
