Please provide some words of advice.

the last 2 months i have been subjected to horrendoud run of bad betas.

AA lost 8 times running to sets.

KK always hitting ace on turn.

King flushes always hitting A flush etc etc

And hitting nowt myself.

I even think the site is against me now lol

8 consecutive times you got dealt AA, they were beaten by sets? All-in pre-flop? Did you slow play and allow someone to hit their set? You're positive there were no winning AA in between the defeats?


Always? That would be 'always' in the dictionary definition of '100% of the time'?

Nothing? You've not hit a single set with a pocket pair? You've not had any big hand hold up?

its getting near 18 months for me online, i have even taken to trying out different tactics and styles to alter my game but everytime i get all in i either get sucked out on or i am out pipped

i am just not playing much at present while i re examine my game

Its a shame it keeps happen to you, looking at the way you play might help, Just keep playing im sure your luck will change.
If your going in with the best hands then your doing nothing wrong 8)

Sounds rough! Not alot you can do! Stick it all-in, close your eyes and pray!

As for Bad Beats,  you cannot let Bad Beats effect you emotionally. You just have to accept them and move on.

Bad Beats are just part of the game.  Tight players naturally suffer them more than people who stick their chips in with anything.

Remember though your luck starts from scratch with every hand.  Nothing that has happened previously has any effect on the cards you get in the future.

I've had a similar run of luck for over 3 months now, but someone said something to me the other night that I thought sounded about right...

In a single hand the ratio of skill : luck is 10:90

In a single tournament (your average 60 runner £30 rebuy type) its more like 30:70

Over a three month spell its in the region of 65:35

and over a year it should be around 80:20

I have learned to accept that as long as I am getting my money in with the best of it (by FAR the best of it in most cases) then I am playing well - if the deck urinates on me from a great height and provides the other player with their 2 outer then that's crap, but it won't be like that forever.

I too lost all confidence in the game and started to feel jinxed but I have really tightened things up lately and although the bad luck is still there, i can deal with it and am at least keeping things as cheap as possible by not tilting and wasting buy ins on 10 7os etc...

More like 90% skill 10% luck and if its not for you then quit!

This is a very confusing post to argue. The government thinks its a game of luck 100% so we're all tax exempt on winnings right.....but
The gutshot is arguing that its a game of skill so shouldn't be covered by gaming law..... (am i wrong?)

a good player thinks it a game of around say 90% skill
a bad player doesn't think about it at all. But lets say he thinks its 90% luck.

I say that all you can do is try and eliminate the negative effects of luck on your game by being the best you can be.

I haven't been playing too long, but I realised early on that any bad beats I got stuck in my mind. And I didn't like that. Its a fact of poker you'll get beat when you expect to win easy, by hands that are way below yours before or after the flop.

Somehow I've managed to wipe away these bad beats when they happen very quickly. 2 Things I now do:

1) Congratulate the opponent in the chat box. Sincerely. He got lucky/took a chance but thats the game. It happens. It will happen the other way round and benefit me in due course. Move on.
2) Take notes of Good beats that I get. I've been doing this for a week. Note the hand, and the stakes. It's enlightening. If I get a bad beat take a look at my good beat book.

It's like riding a bike. Fall off. Get back on asap. Take it cautiously at first. Get confidence back. Keep on riding.

A good beat book I like that idea. It's easy to forget about the times you hit a two card out or runner runner st8.

I found this ages ago (on twoplustwo or zeejustin I cant remember now) and find it helpfull to read now and again. I have kept helpful articles and posts for the last two years in a word doc. sad but true.

I feel you pain today i had aces cracked by 10 3 , a 8 and 77 its enough to make you pull your hair out.

In the last 5 days my AA was raised all in preflop and lost to QQ each time making either a set, straight or flush.  Last night I was dealt JJ as BB, button raised 4 BB's and I called.  Flop came 2, 7 J giving me a set.  Button raised all in, I called and Button showed QQ.  River was a Q and that was that.  I find it pretty spooky that it is always QQ outdrawing me.  Although it is no consolation, you are not alone in experiencing these beats but if you continue to get your chips in when you are ahead the tide will turn and the results will come in.

It's amazing that we never hear of 'good beats', do we? For every bad beat, there must be an equal and opposite good beat.
