Title: Big Game
Post by: Sark79 on February 25, 2006, 03:52:55 PM
England V's Scotland. Not long away now

I have a strong feeling that Scotland could achieve the impossible today. It is a shame I don't gamble, I could make some cash.

And tonight, Danny Williams V's Matt Skelton at the boxing.

Good days sport ahead

I will pull out all the normal Scottish excuses. We are trained in them from a young age.

1. We are a smaller country
2. We were unlucky
3. That damm Ref..he had it in for us
4. It was too hot, we are used to the rain
5. We are a brave team, everyone likes to play the Scots
6. Our best player was ill

I am sure there are some more  :D

The only sport Scotland can beat England at is Elephant Polo. Scotland are double World Champions at the sport, where as England haven't participated since 1793  ;goodvevil;

That is true, Nemesis. We are very skillful Elephant polo players. The sad thing about that was on the Scottish News, there was a report which lasted about 5 minutes. We were actually really proud of ourselves. You know when the country has reached the bottom when we are proud of our Elephant polo team.

That was an amusing thread, Nemesis. Wish I had been around for that one

5:20pm, I think Silo

I can't see Matt Skelton beating Danny Williams. Williams is alot more experienced at the highest level. Klichko(sp?), Tyson and Audley Harrison. Although he lost against Klichko and Harrison didn't really put up much of a fight.

I am so dissapointed in our heavy weight division right now, especially with Danny Williams and more so with Harrison.

Williams showed ALOT of promise in his early 20's and became SO LAZY, Any one remember when he beat that fella with 1 arm coz his other became dislocated......superb

Harrison was fantastic at the olympics and with a great deal of effort he could really of been a challenger, He knows time isnt really on his side so should of been training his ass off to get to a stage to challenge some top figters but he just became a celebrity whore and i feel as blown any opportunity he once had.

And when these 2 fought each other it was THE worst fight i have ever seen.....truely terrible

I think Danny Williams is good. When he challenged for the World title, I think every other figher would have lost that fight as well.

I agree totally Jim.

The whole (World) Heavyweight division sucks. There are no decent Heavyweights anymore, all the talented fighters, fight at Welterweight-Super Middleweight. There are going to be some great fights at these weights in the coming months, starting with Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy next Saturday. It should be a good fight, I hope Calzaghe can put in a similar performance to what Hatton did last year against Tszyu, but I doubt it very much.

Why do you think it has taken Calzaghe so long to get a fight like this?

I know since 97 after beating Eubank he has had hand problems. But do you think it is mainly down to his manager?

Hatton got rid of Frank Warren. Isn't Calzaghe managed by Warren?.  I remember Hattons struggle to get a big fight before his title shot at Tszyu.

Should Calzghe have switched manager? Would this have speeded things up for him.

He is getting on abit now, it is a shame he really could have done alot in America. I hope it is not too late for him now. I remember back in about 99, there was talk of Calzaghe fighting Roy Jones. What ever happened to that fight happening?

Im sorry to say it but Lacey will destroy calzaghe,

Lacey is just a monster, the hardest punch I've seen in ages

But should be a fantastic fight if Calzaghe is on top form (which he hasnt been for a while)

From '97 to a couple of years ago the Super Middleweight division was a weak division, especially in Europe. If you look at Calzaghe's recent fights, you will see he has fought no-one of any importance. There were talk of Calzaghe fighting Roy Jones but Jones moved up to the Light Heavyweight/ Heavyweight division due to there being no mega money fights in the Super Middleweight division. Now Lacy has arrived with the intention of unifying the Super Middleweight division, it doesnt seem like its all about the money, hence why Warren can afford to promote this fight.

When John Rawlings just said that either Skelton or Williams could get a world title shot after this fight I nearly choked on my beer with laughter. Skelton has rolls of fat hanging off him.

Where are all the heavyweight boxers these days? All the guys who, in the past, would have become boxers - what are they doing instead?

That was an ok fight.  I was so happy Williams won.  I have always been a fan of him.

The ref must be the worst in the world.  I know people will say he is well respected, but he missed so much.

Matt Skelton is such a dirty fighter. I know boxing is a rough game, but the tactics he used were awful. I just can't respect a guy like that.

In the final round, it was obvious how tired Williams was. After Skelton got the head cut, Williams just didn't have the juice to finnish it.

The right man won.

Roll on the world title fight later this year. second time lucky.

I see what a Blondite was talking about when they said Naz had eaten a pie shop. Sorry, I cant remember who it was.

Yea I agree. But when you are seeing a fighter constantly dance around the rules, it is nice to see the judges get it right. It was obvious the Ref was having a sleepy night and was missing so much of Skelton's dirty tactics.

Do judges take into consideration the way a fighter works?.  I mean, if it is a close fight, would they take into consideration how clean a fighters approach was. I admit Skelton was the more aggressive of the two, but his tactics must be so tiring on Williams. To be constantly head butted and have the guys head grinding away on you the whole fight. It was ironic that it was Skelton who had the cut, afterall it was him doing all the head grinding the whole fight.

I thought williams handled him self brilliantly,

he didnt lower himself to skeltons level and just fought HIS fight  :respect:

I believe the judges must of taken into account the tactics of skelton in there decision

ALOT of work for williams to do if he wants that world title......but i wish himall the best.
