Title: Taking lots of Euros in & out of MonteCarlo etc
Post by: RoyCropper on March 02, 2006, 04:19:33 PM
Could anyone tell me if I need to declare the amount of Euros I have at customs in the uk
or entering France/Monte Carlo. Or to any other EU country for that matter.
On the way to Deauville a policeman gave me grief at Newhaven. He said if I had more than 5k Euros and couldn't prove
what they were for they could be confiscated. I will need a hell of a lot more than that for Monte Carlo.
Cheers.

I think the best bet is to wire them to the casino/hotel before hand.

i believe the limit for EU is EUR 7,600... from memory that's what it said when I walked through customs last night with £53m in my suitcase....

This is just another manifestation of the police state that we now live in.  There is no legislation about this (amount), but the police have just decided that no one has a legitimate reason for carting about more than £5k and will confiscate it until you can prove its legitimacy.

If you have a receipt from bank/bureau bring this.  If not, at least bring some documents detailing the tournaments.

If you win in Monte, remember to bring along the photo of you with trophy, suitcase full of dosh and pokerstars model/host/girl person.  :D

ps I'm going to win anyway so you probably won't have this problem.
