Title: Great fold? .............or something more sinister? Post by: celtic on March 05, 2006, 03:37:49 AM During a recent live tourney, i witnessed what i thought was one of the best folds i have seen. It was a limted re-buy (1) tourney with an add on at the end of the first 90 mins. PLHE. Approx i hour into the comp, blinds are 50-100. Neither player has had a re-buy at this stage) Player A (4500 approx) in 2nd position makes it 450 to play. Everyone folds except player B (on the button) (5k approx) who calls. Flop comes 5c 5d 3h.
Player A bets 1200. Player B thinks for about 3 minutes, turns to player A and says will you show if i fold, to which Player A replied Yes. Amazingly ( I think) Player B folds showing KK. Player A then turns over AA. Great fold by Player B??? I think so. HOWEVER!!!!! Whilst singing the praises of Player B to my poker buddies who were not fortunate enough to witness what i thought was a great fold, More than one of them instantly came to the conclusion that collusion had taken place as no one is good enough to fold KK on that kind of board. So i put it to you, Great fold................ or something more sinister???????? Title: Re: Great fold? .............or something more sinister? Title: Re: Great fold? .............or something more sinister? Post by: doubleup on March 05, 2006, 08:23:17 AM It isn't collusion because there is no need to play the hand at all and there is no advantage in passing a small amount of chips. If I was player A, I would closely examine the cards to see if they were marked.
Player A def needs to mix up his play a bit and ask someone if he has a big tell when he has AA, because either he is a rock that only raises with AA and KK early or he does something to give away his hand. Post by: shortstack_itb on March 06, 2006, 11:24:33 AM I've fold kings on a flop of 3 4 3 before, I limped UTG and no one raised the bb, went all hollywood when i saw the board had paired and gauged the bb's reaction, he checked the flop then bet the queen on the river I folded, the button held ace queen so I managed to see the bb turn over his trips, possibly the best fold i have ever made well up there in my top 10. Nothing sinster, you just know when your losing. Serves me right for sandbagging and limping. oooo I do like a trap!

Would he bet so hard with such a monster hand, isnt a unmade continuation bet more likely?? from this flop are you so convinced his hit trips or 2 pair or better?

Great fold in my book, must have picked up something which he wanted confirming imho. Title: Re: Great fold? .............or something more sinister? Post by: way_too_tight on March 07, 2006, 02:01:53 AM If the AA is a real tight player with a bunch of chips then the KK has made a good play here.
If he knows the guy would only really have AK/QQ+ to be raising from that early position, and has also seen him check AK when he misses, then he's got a fair chance of finding out if his KK is good for no extra chips, he also gets to walk away from an ace flop. It's a good play - as long as you're sure. It might have been that the guy was willing to show, which is unlikely to be a bluff from this kind of player. It doesn't look suspect to me. I'd agree that aces should bluff this guy more often. |
