how would u guys appoach a live rebuy tourney starting bank 1500 first blinds 50-100 appreciate any help      Pokerram

What's the buyin? How long are the rebuys? What are the rounds like after that? Have you been before? Have you played live before?

not played live b4 its the derby tues night buyin 20, blinds go up evry hour sorry dont know blinds after that as not been yet rebuys last for 2 hrs

Well as it's your first live tourney I'd play very tight and just try to get used to the situation. There are likely to be some rebuy merchants there who will be very loose.

Essentially it will be a lesson.

I'd join you but the whole 10pm start time doesn't reallly appeal to me. Still if I have weds free i might have a dabble.

I suffered once at the hand of a rebuy merchant. First ever live hand I played was the aces and he called with KJ and hit two jacks. Hence "No flops". I'm not so keen on the smaller tourneys where there are people like that and no house dealers. I'd rather play freezeouts and on the net.

You need those players to build the prize pool and pay you when you have a good hand.

Yes, you'll be outdrawn sometimes but that's poker.

And my biggest tip is to enjoy the game.

If you find yourself at a table full of rebuy merchants it will be just an experience unless the poker gods are smiling on you.  I've had this in the last two tourneys, people rebuying upto 12 times each x eight players is hard to compete with unless your pockets are deep.  I've rebought twice and called it a day when it's like that. 

It's a great experience though and very different from online.  The atmosphere is brilliant especially if there is some friendly banter at the table!

You find that most new players will go for the smaller buyin events, dipping their toe in the water so to speak.
The problem is the rebuy merchants.
At walsall the 5 rebuy on fridays is an absolute joke with an average of 4 rebuys per person!!!
I really believe this is responsible for scaring new players away, and indeed a lot of the regular players don't bother on Fridays some even go to Luton!!
I would advise any new 'live' players to choose an event with a minimum buyin of 20 or a freezeout.

According to CheesyPoker, next tuesday's 50 buy-in is a no rebuy, no add-on tournament. Also, I'd recommend the rookie tournaments on Saturdays at Walsall too, only one rebuy or add-on allowed.

My first ever live game was the rookie tourney played on the Sat afternoon at Walsall and it was excellent for a first experience and therefore I highly recommend it ;D. I've also played the 5 Friday night game which is a rebuy fest (I re-bought 4 times) but if you play it right then you can get into the freezout period with a nice stack! I would also recommend this game ;D (just take a few spare fivers and expect to get your aces cracked!)

I ALWAYS expect to get my aces cracked.  :'(

Do you play at Walsall often homer?

I've played a couple of times, I might go down for the 50 buy-in next tuesday if my bank roll allows it. I'm still very young and certainly can't afford the bankroll that some of you guys afford...  :D

Im youngish (26) and my bankroll is tiny  ;D although I can manage a few rebuys in a 10 comp  ;) If you do play the 50 let me know how it went cause Ive always fancied it just never got chance to play it.

Well, I'm probably gonna play it if it's a none rebuy event, I don't have the cash to match these rebuy merchants so I need to start on a level playing field.

It is a freezeout, so it will only cost the 50 + 5.............. good luck fella  ;D

finally played my first live tourney last nite at derby . played really tight being my first tourney and finally went out the lsst hand before the freezeout started.seemed a great set of people exscept one threw his chips across table and walked out after he claimed the pot. all the rest of the table had heard him pass. onlly won one hand which was ATs when i floped a set best hand i had alnight. cant wait to go again because i think i learned such a lot      pokerram

Glad you enjoyed it and learnt from it.  I'm only a couple of tournaments ahead of you and learning so much each time still.

is the 50 freezeout every tuesday at walsall??
are there house dealers???

Yeah dan the freezeout is every tuesday and although Ive never played it Im positive that they have house dealers for the 50 comp

Last entry is 9pm so it should start around 9.15pm, I cant make it next Tuesday tho and the tuesday after is Omaha so Im aiming for the 2nd of August.  Let me know how it plays if you do go next tue though  :)
