Title: omaha hand
Post by: dan on March 07, 2006, 09:23:05 AM
truth is im an omaha fish and i dont really play that much and when i do i play very small limits so it is not a problem when i lose.

i sat down at a .15/.25$ PL table with just $6. i got it up to $15 in about 10 mins.

then i get this hand.

dealt to wormy [Jd Ts Jh 9c]
jdilar: calls $0.25
thglide22: checks
NeverMind: calls $0.25
wormy: raises to $0.75
10jqakou: raises to $3.40
NICKTOUT: folds
Aikku joins the table at seat #10
xxxman: calls $3.15
jdilar: calls $3.15
thglide22: folds
NeverMind: calls $3.15
wormy: calls $2.65
----- FLOP ----- [2d 8d Th]
xxxman: bets $17.40
jdilar: folds
NeverMind: folds
stampman joins the table at seat #9
wormy: is all-in $13.35
10jqakou: raises to $34.80
xxxman: is all-in $2.40
Returned uncalled bets $15 to 10jqakou
----- TURN ----- [2d 8d Th][2c]
----- RIVER ----- [2d 8d Th 2c][7d]
----- SHOW DOWN -----
10jqakou: shows [As Ad Jc Kd] (A Flush, Ace high)
xxxman: shows [9d 6d Kc 7h] (A Flush, Nine high)
wormy: shows [Jd Ts Jh 9c] (A Straight, Jack high)
10jqakou collects $12.75 from Side pot #1
10jqakou collects $54.60 from Main pot
----- SUMMARY -----
Total pot $70.35 Main pot $54.60 Side pot #1 $12.75 | Rake $3
Board [2d 8d Th 2c 7d]
Seat 1: NeverMind folded on the Flop
Seat 3: wormy showed [Jd Ts Jh 9c] and lost
Seat 4: 10jqakou (button) showed [As Ad Jc Kd] and won ($67.35) with A Flush, Ace high
Seat 5: NICKTOUT (small blind) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 6: xxxman (big blind) showed [9d 6d Kc 7h] and lost
Seat 7: jdilar folded on the Flop
Seat 8: thglide22 (big blind) folded before Flop (didn't bet)

10jqakou was the big stack and raising the pot most hands.

what i want to know is should i have put in a small raise with my J,J,10,9 hand preflop?
should i have called the reraise pre flop?
should i have called the all in on the flop?

i called the all in because i felt if i was up against AA with my hand i had an overpair to the board, top pair on the board and an open ended straight draw so i had quite a few outs. so any J,10,7 or Q i hit the 7 but unfortunatley it was the  7d to make the nut flush.

advice and comments please

Hi dan

personnaly I like the initial raise and call pre flop you have a nice hand and you want to get paid if you can catch the flop.
The flop though was not as good for you. with 4 players seeing the flop You are a big dog unless you flop top str8 or a set. To call a bet I would want to flop (set, with  a drawing hand) OR a (str8 draw with a strong flush draw). a str8 draw only is not enough.
remember you have a 4 way pot here!
The problem with Omaha is you will nearly always catch some of the flop. If I have not flopped the nuts I would want to have 2 big draws to call a bet on the flop.  i.e. nut flush draw and str8 draw.

Agree with the above, you have no flush draw and only a seven gives you the nut straight so basically you are drawing to 3 outs (for the nuts) against so much action post flop you cannot realistically call your odds of hitting are so bad.
