We were all shattered to hear of the dreadful events in London yesterday.

Our condolednces to the bereaved, and the injured. Our thoughts are with you.

And I often poke a little fun at the Americans, and we all know it's in jest, but.......

I have been approached by dozens of Americans this morning, many of them unknown to me.

"Hey, hope your folks back home are OK. Tell them we Americans will support you for ever".

It's very touching, and very moving. I don't know what else to say, but their support has touched me so much.

OK, lets move on. But lets not be giving any Poker Bad Beat Tales today.

How many runners? As of 2 minutes ago, 5,580 is the OFFICIAL Count.

Single Table satrellites are running, & will continue to, for another 45 minutes.

Apologies for the lack of build up and a decent "preview", but we lost conection with the blonde Forum yesterday, and it was only rrstored 10 minutes ago. Not that I was in the least worried....

Team Blonde today?

Jen, Colchester Kev, Rhowena, and myself. Occasional help from just about every Brit, and many Americans, who seem to have taken blonde to their hearts for some reason.

We will have about 180 tables to cover at the start of play today, tomorrow, and Saturday.

So it wont be easy to "spot" everyone, but....If one of our guys are playing, & we know them, we WILL follow them all the way. And if you have a request to follow a particular player, let us know, & we will do.

Priorities during the early stages:

Just want to wish eveyone from the UK the very best of luck and thanks to tikay et al for the updates.

I am ensconsed in the Press Room. which is Off Limits to all except Press Badge Holders. It is quite near, but not in, the Arena.

Jen is in "Convention Way" - a sort of corridor so big it's like a road, which leads from the Rio to the Convention Centre, where the action is. She cant get in the Press Room - we have tried everything, & failed. But she is actually nearer to the action than I am.

Just said Hi to Jonathan Rabb and a nice Gentleman by the name of Elkan Allen, who, I believe, does stuff for Inside Edge.

Jen has just arrived. She's part time, see?

We have been trying to locate an official "who's playing today and on what table" thing, but there does not seem to be one.

Yes I am here now and set up near an unclaimed power outlet in the hallway.  At least I'm not fighting for space in the press room like some people... I think I will be maintaining a sneak-in sneak-out reporting style.  But I have just encountered Elkan Allen who is quite good at wheedling things like passes out of people.  Half hour to go now....

We think the problems r.e. finding out specific people's seats etc might stem from the fact that it's not entirely fixed - in fact I just heard that one can buy in until the end of the first level (around 1pm), and there are still frantic satellites going on in the main room

No sign that the immense crowd is actually going to take its collective seat on time, sorry!  Plenty of milling around still going on and the omnipresent mic guy hasn't warned the players to take their places yet.  Word circulating a figure around 5600

Thanks for the thoughts from Vegas .... bit of a nightmare day in London today.  I am a very lucky blondeite right now .... got out of Liverpool Street 30 seconds before the blast and took me 5 hours to get home!!

It is HEAVING in the Arena, and of Team Blonde, I am the only one permitted inside the ropes.

I just did a recce of 30 tables - info passed to Jen - so just another 160 tables to go......

Harry Demetriou, in full Gutshot gear, has already been yo-yoing from and early knock to 6k, back to 10 and is now on around 8000

ActionJack lost 3000 on the very first hand but is now holding steady.

More early fireworks for Nick Gibson who was ALL-IN FIRST HAND just like people talk about round the kitchen table.  He flopped top set of Queens vs someone else's middle set of 6s (I think it was 6s).  Whatever the set, the other guy managed to pass his hand but Nick now has about 16500 in chips.

Mark Neopolitina lying level; 'Adrian Mole' on 8500, Isabelle on 8500, The Bubble up to 13,000

Bad Girl in a spot of trouble with JJ vs AA on a 9-high board as she bet until a potential flush came on the end.  In pretty good shape with 8000, considering!

Vicky Coren took down an extra 2000 and is now on a fag break

Julian Gardner has 10700 and is quoted as stating he's heading to "cash out."

A good start just got better for Burnley John who is up to a fab 25000

Latif found my office corner in the break and told me he has 15,000, due in the main part to this rather interesting hand - L. holds the J7d, the flop is 5d 9d Jc.  He bets, gets a caller.  Turn: Js.  He bets again (500), Matey raises (check-raises to be precise), call.  The river comes the Qd and his 1500 bet is called.  Turns out the other guy had J 10.  Pretty interesting

tikay- just read your bio...I work in construction too. If you get a chance, meandering around the Strip looking at the new construction can be an enjoyable activity (though a hot one this time of year.)  Who knows, maybe you can get picked up as a project consultant and stick around town for a year or two.

Some detail on Mr Hendry's exit - his AA was called preflop by 22 which hit a set on the flop and  ended up with quads when all the money (about 17,000) was in the middle.

El Blondie update -

Having said his intention was to sit quietly and work out the table, there has been more action than you can shake a stick at.

First hand he picked up QQ, second hand AK and between them worked it up quickly to 13,000.  Then there was a little hiatus of about a half hour before some more Queens showed up.  He re-raised a 150 preflop raiser to 650, got a call.  The flop of 9 10 J was not the most pleasant, especially when it turned out the other guy had called him preflop with 10 J!

A much worse hit to his stack came when he raised with AQh preflop with one caller.  The flop came complete with K Jh and there was a raise re-raise and call.  El Blondie missed on the turn, but hit the Q on the river which induced a call.  Other guy turned out to have the K and Dave was down to just 2200!

The reprieve came in the form of AK under the gun.  He limped (hoping for the all-in reraise opportunity) but the pot ended up 4 way for a A K J flop.  Dave reraised the bettor before him, got r-r-raised and was all-in against the flopped nuts.  Just when it was looking a little bleak, the A popped out on the river, and he's back to 7500.  Whew.

A great big shout from the other room indicated a huge hand between Chris Ferguson and someone else (sorry, name on its way).  Ferguson got it all-in with his AA vs guy's K 9.  The flop was K 9 4.  Not looking good.  The turn, a Q, but the river brought another 4 counterfeiting the 2 pair and making Chris' stack one of the larger.

Current leader is Irishman Joe Rafferty, with a healthy 40,000 in chips

In case anyone didn't already know this.. they have a 'TV table' on a kind of stage thingy complete with hole-card cameras and film crew going all the time.  They tend to pick tables with at least one famous name, and at the moment we have Greg Raymer who will end up on TV soon.  I heard from someone yesterday that they were originally seated on the TV table, but when the producers found there was no-one they recognised, they got swapped for one with other more notable players.  Charming.

I'm sending someone to look for the blackpool contingent.

Good chip-related news from Andy Black - he re-raised a lady preflop raiser with Kings to 1600.  She pushed all-in for the full 10,000.  After a lengthy dwell he called and she turned over 10 10.  He's up to 29,000.

Greg Raymer seems to thrive in the spotlight - up to over 40,000 since moving to the TV arena.

OK back from the abyss.  133 tables remaining.  I have found out how it's going to end up today - they are playing until level 7 UNLESS there are still over 650 players remaining.  In that case they will play on until the correct number have got themselves knocked out one way or another.  Then that end time will be set for the next two days - if it's 3am tonight it's 3 friday and saturday too....   They can allow for the possibility of over 650 remaining on the other days because their full capacity is somewhere around the 2200 mark.  This will ensure that everyone is at exactly the same point in the same blind level etc. for Day 2 (or 4).  Not a bad way of doing it, actually.

Amusing story passed on to me by contact in the PokerStars world... apparently at the press conference meet'n'greet thing there came to light a player who had qualified for the main event through a kind of text message prize draw.  The question was "which is the higher card, 10 or J?"  He quipped that he'd simply entered twice...
Anyway, the largest tournament he's played in to date is a 100 play-chip sit'n'go, so this should be an experience.  He's playing saturday so I shall endeavour to track him down.

Dinner break in a few minutes (actually this time.)  No - dinner break now; they're all pouring out.  Time to grab some players and ask what's been happening.

Saw Simon Hennessey on around 8000 chips who was close enough to the barrier to let me actually see what was happening on his table.  The s.b. raised pre-flop and was called in mid-position and by Simon on the button.  The flop came Kc 9c 8d.  S.B. bet, two calls.  The turn was the unremarkable 2s.  S.b. bet big and the two remaining contenders dwelled impressively before passing (in all probablility a flush draw...) but the attention was taken from his table by the oldest player in the tournament (91) being given a 10 minute penalty for the ol' F-word.  He was half-lifted out of the area and told to come back...

Found Gutshot qualifier Tiffany Williams who is up to 22000.

Ironside - Tikay says that he's been trying to send you those pics for 2 hrs... he says not to worry, he'll find a way of compressing them or something (sic) Night night to all you who can't stay up late.

Exciting dinner-break story from Latif who had quite a chunk removed from his stack when he raised with AJs and got one flat caller in the blinds.  The flop came A 8 8.  Bet and call.  Turn a blank, river an 8.  Interestingly, a sizeable bet here was only called by the other guy, who went on to reveal AA!  Latif said "he could have had all my chips!"  Instead he's only down to 18000.  Apparently that pot over 20,000.

Tiffany Williams in an interesting, and quite sizeable pot - she is raised preflop and calls.  On the flop (J 6 7) turn (7) and river (7) her opponent bets, and at every street she flat calls.  The river call takes a while but she still makes it and flips over 10 10 - beating her opponent's 8 8 and giving her an estimated 10,000

Isabelle Mercier out - knocked out  by John Gale.  She was down to about 4,000 and when he saw that his hand was good (A8 clubs) he said he was "gutted to have knocked her out." 

The drama of Latif continues... his Aces having been cracked by 99 for about 8000 he started a bit of a betting frenzy, eventually getting moved to a new table holding 11,000.  Pretty soon he moves all-in under the gun with AQoff (pretty big bet considering the bb is 300) and a dweller in seat 6 eventually makes a brave call with 10 10.  Latif hits his queen for a pretty big double-through and I think that may have calmed him somewhat.

Just found Gavin Crawley (team Gutshot) in the corridor, having just busted out.  The deciding factor in his demise was the Table Move, whereby his supertight image he had built for the preceding 6 hours was dissolved and he found himself between a couple of very large stacks who were raising every pot.  Suddenly on 16000 he felt a bit short stacked, which probably led to the resulting way of betting 10 J suited on the button.  The big blind called, and they saw the K 9 8 flop.  B.B. checked, and Gavin checked, which he reckons with his hindsight-glasses on might not have been the best move.  Nevertheless, the turn brought an 8 and when Gavin raised the BB's bet all-in for a large 15,000, he wasn't too happy to get a call and see A8.  The river brought no help and that's where I met him in the hall.  I think in another couple of days he might be found in another event, though...

Before I open the Day Two Day One Thread. (eh?) a word about Jen.

She "clocked on" at 10.00am yesterday, & I took her back to The Orleans in a taxi at 0415, thats a LONG day. I kept telling her to give best, but she's tough and plucky.

Until tomorrow, we cant get her a Press Pass, so she has no access to the Press Room, or "inside the ropes" yet.

So she set up a little "office" in the Convention Way "corridor", a bench seat for her laptop & her, a wall socket, job done. And it became a sort of Brit's Corner, with the Brits congreating there during breaks, & a constant stream of folks giving her updates and stuff. It was well cosy.

I believe we, or you guys, CAN put a "link" to another site if deemed appropriate. But not wholesale cut and paste. Please don't take offence, but quite apart from the morality & ethical issue, there is the legal side to consider. One well-known website faces huge claims for data copying, & my pension won't run to that.

On a TOTALLY unrelated matter, Joe Beevers & myself spent a lot of time together yesterday, and we have a great "understanding" of how best to work together. He "borrowed" some of our stuff, posted it on HMF, & gave acknowledgement & thanks to blonde. We did the same.
