I think the expression "NEW HOMEPAGE" may lead to confusion. Sure, it's the term we have used "in-house", in literally hundreds of conversations, texts, e-mails, meetings, discussions, arguments even, & heaven knows what else as we have gradually assembled the thing.

But it's the WHOLE SITE - Forum excluded - that has been revamped. And more than just a "new look", it will have more features, Daily Articles, fresh stuff EVERY day - not just PR blurb & Press Releases, but, we hope, readable stuff, contributed by many of us. The "Main Site" has been neglected for a long time, for good reasons, but that's about to change. And we've added something called CMS - Content Management System - that means some of us Content Providers can input stuff directly onto the site ourselves.

So if we play a tourney, we can input a Tourney Report the moment we get home, & it will be there waiting when everone gets up in the morning. That was the original idea, in fact that was how I began writing Poker Stuff, but it loses it's freshness if it's not uploaded immediately.

It's gonna change blonde very much for the better. We hope.......

I'm about to start!  The upgrade will take up to an hour and will mean locking the forum while the upgrade takes place.  As we are moving lots of things around, you may get errors if you try and access the site in the next hour.  As you know the forum will also be getting a new theme to keep it in line with the look and feel of the new site.

Hope you like it,
Sparks

I wake up and my blonde forum has been replaced with a grey monster. I can hardly read any of the posts because the black writing hardly shows up.

How do you change it back??

Ok folks, we're back.

It looks like it's all working ok - hope you like the new look and the new forum theme.  As tikay has mentioned we have disabled the ability for you to change your own theme, primarily to ensure the banners etc look ok.  We may re-introduce other themes in the future.

There is lots of new stuff on the web site.  Snoopy and Aaron have done a great job with migrating/adding content and will be adding new content every day.  We will be adding new features to the site over time - this is just the start.

If you notice any problems, have any comments (good or bad) - please let us know.

We had a bit of an unexpected outage there.  It looks like there was a networking problem at our hoster - it doesn't look like it was a problem with our server or the upgrade.  I'm waiting for an explanation from the hoster.

We'll wait for a bit more feedback on the forum colours before changing anything.  We've tried to give the forum and web site a similar look and feel, using the grey/yellow/black colours.

does the text look better in bold

edit: I think so :D

Post by: AdamM on March 27, 2006, 09:19:52 AM
my initial thought was dark and gloomy but after only 30 secs I think I like the look BUT can we have yellow as the default text colour. black on grey is pretty hard on the eye

Title: Re: NEW SITE! -- JUST HOURS (!!!) REMAINING
Post by: Sparks on March 27, 2006, 09:43:36 AM
Just had confirmation from our hoster that a networking switch that our server was attached to failed and was replaced.  It was just coincidence that this happened 30 minutes after we upgraded the site but did get us a little worried that we'd screwed something up.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, who's idea was the colour scheme?
Do you not think there was a reason most of us stuck with the default scheme?
This is horrid, we'll all go blind straining to read it.
Please give an option to change back.

Yes, I prefer the colours from this morning, much better. Probably better for the eyes when you are tired late at night as well!
I must be honest and say I am not so keen on the main site. When the ideas were put forward a while ago, there were some awesome ones. This one, I am not so keen on. It looks a little "busy and cluttered" as so much is going on. There are a couple of places that could do with aligning at the top of the page as well. Being hyper criticial, although of course it is not a problem, I think the buttons at the top of the web page need sorting out as they do not look right although I understand that the intention was to try and make them all the same size.
Personally I would like to see links to items such as "Online Poker Room" and "tournament reports" rather than them being on the front page.
Now I feel pretty sure I will be criticised for saying so many "negative" cooments but, Tikay and I used to be very close friends (when he used to email me!) and that was based on honesty. Even when the very first site was launched all those moons ago, he asked for my opinion on it before it was released as he knew I would be honest. I will continue to be that.
Having said all of that, I still think this is a big improvemnt from the original so a big well done to all concerned.

Took me a while to work out what site I had stumbled onto. Then I saw my avatar, "who's that handsome devil", I thought to myself.  Oh, its me. I must be on Blonde... :D

I like it,  it may take awhile for my eyes to switch to the new colours. I am going to the optician soon anyway, so I should be sorted  8)

one thing I'd like to see changed on the new forum. we used to have different colours for visited  and unvisited links which made it very easy to see what page you'd read up to when reading long threads without having to go through the pages one by one. Can we have that back please?

other than that, good job

Hehe, nothing's changed Simon, I still feel the same about you & J, but I'm so far behind with e-mails & stuff it's untrue. Bear with me. I have got up-to date on RECENT e-mails - did that last week - but have dropped 3 days behind again since The Vic, & I did all except 6 or 7 PM's too, so they are nearly up to date.

Keep that constructive feedback coming too. Constructive & negative are different things. We've come a long way since tht first start, but we got a whole lot further to go, so feedback from guys like you who understasnd these things is needed.

I never saw any e-mails fom you, did I miss it? May still be in the "hardcore" backlog - I'll get there, I promise!

Good points. Funnily enough Snoops and I spoke about this yesterday.

Our view originally was that we'd rather give you too much information than not enough. The idea being we show you what we've got through front page "teasers" then you guys go "exploring" for the rest.

Point taken on board. It is an important one.

Great feedback - just what's needed.
