Title: Bluffing off the lot
Post by: bundle on March 21, 2006, 05:19:53 AM
Gutted..

I played a MTT  supersat 1801 players with 25 seats,  I take 5th place and go through, then get to the next round 2781 runners with 3 seats up for grabs to a televised single table event.
we are down to 280 players I’m 18th in chips and semi bluff all my F ing chips off to one of the leaders

ME  SB… Kd Qd………flop    Td Jh 6d    turn and river both bricks and I’ve spent  10 hours on sweet F A

Matey had Raised it to 2k from 1 off the cutoff with blinds at 300/600

I made it 6k to go as i think its a steal... he flat calls. and then i set about giving him all my chips.

I had 32k and he kept calling me with As Ts.

Gotta love the hours we all put into this. OH WELL there is always another day

 Kd Qd

Re-raise?

I don't get involved with that in a tournament, let him have your SB.  If he's not stealing you're behind or coin flipping to a pocket pair.  In cash it's a different matter.

Yeah I agree, but i'm also trying to let him know to stay off my blinds. I really did'nt expect the 6k call. and thought i was in great shape with that flop. I'm a twat What can i say!

At the end of the day when the money goes in on the flop you are actually favourite to win the hand - which technically speaking isnt stealing ;) you tried a semi bluff that didnt pay off. Remember this?

Well at least now it shows that you've progressed on to stealing and blind protection - just got to remember who to target and who to avoid :) at the end of the day with only 3 seats up for grabs you need to put yourself in a position to be still in with a chance when you get down to the final few tables. I see nothing wrong with the play you've made here on the flop - maybe try and take a free card on the turn and give it up if you miss on the river. However faced with a big bet on the river most good players would lay down 2nd pair, calling stations however wont. If you had been at the table long enough to establish that this person was a calling station then dont try and continually bluff them - it just wont work :(

Can't blame you for liking that flop.

I disagree with Mr. Moves and think your re-raise is ok. There's only 3 seats up for grabs in this satellite so the whole tournament plays more like a cash game till the fianl table.

Unlucky, you had as many outs as I have fingers and toes.

I agree, then all-in on the flop. If he comes back over the top preflop then you can fold.

You wouldn't get me off that flop, all my chips would of gone in.  But, you wouldn't get me risking chips at that stage by re-raising.  3 seats go through, no need for heroics.

No way would I fold KQ suited in the SB to a raise from the cutoff representing a tiny part of my stack, unless he was an absolute rock.  Calling and (assuming the BB folds) then betting the flop regardless of what comes is an alternative to re-raising pre-flop.

My all in finger would be twitching on that flop, given that I hate playing a drawing hand out of position and there is a more than useful 21 big bets in the pot.  My main concern would be whether an attempt to checkraise all in is better than an immediate push.

If Tank has as many fingers and toes as there are outs, he must be a very strange mutant indeed  :D

i think you'll find that because bundle's opponent has the As in his hand that tank has the standard requisit of digits ;)

Whether or not to re-raise pre-flop would depend upon my perception of the raisers ability to lay a hand down.

If he can pass, I might re-raise. Possibility of winning the pot there and then or with a bluff later on.

If he's a caller, then I'll just flat call his pre-flop raise. No need to play a big pot against this type of player.

He was an aggressive player, hence his big stack, he was raising a lot and taking pots and  blinds uncontested, I thought as I was stacked he might respect my raise, and let him know not to mess with my blinds, as I said, the call was unexpected and I was never getting away from the flop. The mistake I made was the way I played the hand on the flop, I should have moved in there and then, but loved this flop so many outs I thought I would double through if he called, the rest of the chips went in on the turn and now he can’t lay it down, so my mistake was simple……..Greed

Greed schmeed. Thousands started, hundreds left, and no prizes for 4th.

Playing your cards faster to lose chip EV but minimize variance doesn't apply here post flop. You played it ok.

Dont think you've done much wrong after a flop like that. Two overs and about eighty-eight draws.

Pre flop the reraise is questionable but I guess it depends on the player.
