Title: AK on the bubble. Post by: Table Manners on March 21, 2006, 03:18:40 PM 30+3 6 seater stt on party. there are three of us left. me and another guy on about 5k each and another guy on about 2. this is the bubble as only top two get paid. blinds are 100-200.
I'm on the big blind with AK. The button (UTG) (sitting on 5k) raises to 600. Small blind folds. What do you do? Do you push and try and force a fold, but risk getting called by a pocket like 9's 10's or J's (maybe even 8's)? You probably don't want to be in a race for all your chips being a big stack on the bubble. Do just put in a big raise? Then at least you're not risking all your chips + he still might fold. Or do you just call and see a flop. Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: Robert HM on March 21, 2006, 03:24:40 PM What about calling and seeing a flop, if he did have a biggie he might reraise you all in. See if you hit the flop and bet out regardless. But I'm rubbish

Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: Royal Flush on March 21, 2006, 03:29:26 PM i re-raise. make it 2600.
Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: Robert HM on March 21, 2006, 03:32:15 PM i re-raise. make it 2600. and if he goes over the top? Not being arguementative, I just want to learn Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: Royal Flush on March 21, 2006, 03:37:01 PM I call.
3 handed i dont pass AK that often! Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: patman on March 21, 2006, 03:40:57 PM interesting.
flushy what happens if you then miss the flop. do you represent with a raise post flop or even all in if you miss..?? Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: Table Manners on March 21, 2006, 07:18:10 PM I ended up pushing. I didn't want to play the hand given it was bubble time, so i hoped for a fold and hoped he didn't have 8's through to j's (even then i'd still be in ok shape).
I figured he wouldn't raise so much if he had kk or aa because he'd be less likely to get a caller. anyway... He called... with AQ. I'm not gonna tell you the rest of the story for risk of owing 50p to the jar... Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: dan on March 21, 2006, 07:36:20 PM I ended up pushing. I'm not gonna tell you the rest of the story for risk of owing 50p to the jar... i think he could raise that much with KK AA its only 3x blind. i think he would probably fold 66 77 88 99 beacuse of the same reason as you he probably doesnt want a race for all of his chips. mind you saying that i thought he might fold AQ because there are only probably 3 or 4 hands you want to play against him once he raised. AA KK QQ AK maybe AQ. so iu think the push is ok Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: Table Manners on March 21, 2006, 10:24:50 PM cheers for insights guys. this forum is a great way of analyzing your poker and getting views from others.
I's surprised he called with AQ as well. I think he even surprised himself! he wrote in the chat after "sorry, that was a terrible call". Still, it's people making calls like that that earns you the money in online poker. Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: turny on March 22, 2006, 11:29:23 AM I call. 3 handed i dont pass AK that often! so if you gonna call anyway why not just push to start with n hope he folds? if he calls and u miss the flop you gotta bet out anyway so personally i would have pushed preflop and held my breath AK a big hand 3 handed Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: Nem on March 22, 2006, 12:08:21 PM Push
Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: temp0r on March 22, 2006, 10:57:05 PM throw in another 1.2k. this looks stronger than pushing which brings the risk of getting called by pocket 77-1010. they may just call and you can then push if you hit the flop or if they check the flop and the turn.

Not being arguementative, I just want to learn I call if he re-raises me all in. I re-raise leaving some back so i can still win the pot on the flop. If he calls i can bet about 1/2 the pot and he might fold a PP. Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: clayftknight on March 23, 2006, 09:30:06 AM 100 times out of 100 I'm all in preflop.
The bubble is not the time to get cute and make any high risk plays. AK is a great hand for putting pressure on people, and the bubble is a great time to put pressure on people. So think not about the fact that you could lose it all, think about the fact that he will have to risk losing it all to call :) Everyone on the planet including him knows it was a terrible call and that is another reason to push, we all make bad calls at times :) well played. Title: Re: AK on the bubble. Post by: Ironside on March 23, 2006, 03:58:23 PM i play this 2 ways depending on my edge over the oppos
if the edge is small (or they are better players) i go all in if i am playing fish like tikay or royal flush i will call and check out the texture of the flop if i dont like flop i can get away without damaging my stack with knowledge i should be able to outplay at later stage Title: Re: AK on the bubble.
