Title: was I right to call?
Post by: Claw75 on March 22, 2006, 01:32:12 PM
MTT, 155 of 225 players left, average stack 2200 or so, I'm left with 800 chips.  Get dealt Ah Kh on the button.  Blinds 25/50.  A few limpers round to me, and I raise to 200.  get called by one player in mid position.

Flop comes 3h 5c 7h.  Opponent first to act and goes all-in (exact same chip count as me).  I put them on an overpair,  but figure I've still got a few outs, and see a good opportunity to double up, so call.

They show 8c 8s and i don't hit.

Any advice on my play here appreciated - thanks :)

If you figure them for a pair at best (below kings) you have to call - you're on the right side of a coinflip even if they have a heart.

Depending on the number of pre-flop limpers, your pot odds are around 2:1.  A call would probably be justified by the flush draw alone even if you ignore all 6 of your overcard outs.

If your are an optimist, and think all your outs are good, you are better than even money to make your hand.  The pot is offering you a big overlay.

Throw in the fact that you need to get some chips quickly before the blinds go up again and that the money is presumably a million miles away.

Autocall.

agree with bongo and barblues. also there's a chance they could be overplaying AQ or AJ. at the end of the day you're gonna need some good fortune to get back into a position to even look likely to make the money. so it's a no brainer. even though you're pretty sure you're behind by a fair bit.
