Title: Calling Problem
Post by: Zispin on March 24, 2006, 10:16:48 PM
Recently I have been calling far too much. Its as if I think everyone is trying to bluff me. I didn't have this problem before its only happened recently. Any suggestions on how to stop this nonsense?

You could try calling less often...

Always make sure you will be the shortstack, and calling too much is a good way of doing this

As the shortstack is always moved you will get to play with a wide vairety of players and by doing so you will come across more bluffers.

Nice novel thinking. Well done.

To start with i would try to start playing solid poker - tight but agressive. If you are going to try and read exactly what your opponents are holding ask yourself "Am i in front?" - if the answer is yes then raise, if the answer is no then fold.

Dont try to out-think yourself, trust your first instinct then dont try to second guess yourself.

Thanks for the advice Matt. I think I have been playing looser especially when i'm on the blinds and as a result getting caught out. I'll start folding preflop more. Cheers

I think Matts advice is spot on.

Sometimes when I feel as if I'm a calling station I just take a piss and tell myself right no chips in the pot unless you have a legitimate hand.

How do you give yourself pep talks when your bladder is empty?

Or do you just keep calling and drink more water till you manage to change your game?

Or powder my nose tank!

I just get away from the table and give myself a going over.

I think all players go through this.

One thing you can add to your game is the thought of 'will i call more bets with this hand without improvement?'. This will probably make you put more thought into a call or fold decision and hopefully you will make the right decision most of the time.
