Title: Premium Hands
Post by: GlasgowBandit on March 25, 2006, 01:35:52 AM
How realistic is it to sit in a STT say 6 seater and only play premium hands, AA, KK, QQ and cash?

I have been trying this but have found that the field start to pull away and my stack just gets blinded away.  Then when I catch a big hand I don't get anya ctiona s my table image is of a very tight player, now anyone who has played against me knows thats not the case :D

Opinions on how and at what levels to vary this.

if you want to play premium hands and get paid, My advice is to start loose, get caught and them wait for the goods.

That tactic isn't suited for the 6 seaters, but will do well in the 9/10 seaters.

(So long as you've got some mental aggressive gear change in you when the blinds get lee-arge.)

i use the reverse tactic for 9 / 10 seaters. I start rock tight looking for big hands or big pots. then at 5 handed if it's not come and I'm below average I look to steal alot, partly because I've been tight so far and partly because the bubble is approaching. if I've gotten big due to big hands I tend to stay tight till 4 handed of even 3 handed if the short stacks seem happy to go to war rather than hold on.

I try and mix my play up as often as I can, but right now for playing online I want to try and find a way that suits me and allows me to cash more frequently.  I have toiled with the a bit of loose play, tried tight and aggressive tried just being a rock.  I seem to get so far and then when I hit a down curve I try and change things again.

Just another point about playing STT's online, if your not multi tabling what do you do to keep you interested when your not picking up hands?

In a live game you can try and indulge the players in a bit of banter and if you have the ability to read a player then this can be seriously used to your advantage, but online I pesonally find it much harder to get a read on a player.  And sometimes in STT's its quite hard because by the time you have picked up on something the geezer has just exited.

You could try playing maniac style - open raise with any pair, most aces inc small ace suited, any 2 broadway and suited connectors.  Always continue if called.  If you survive long enough the table will begin to fold a lot and even if they call, they will fold to the continuation.  Needless to say you will have to asssess the situation if your flop bet is called......
