Title: Competition for Blondepoker room? Post by: marcro on April 03, 2006, 03:38:59 PM A new online poker site - Mansion, which has yet to be launched, has signed as Man Utd's new shirt sponsor for a 4 year deal for £60,000,000. Hmmmm, would be interesting to see the cash flow model for this new venture!

Post by: bobby1 on April 03, 2006, 11:43:46 PM lol, its better than the 11 million coral/eurobet spent on a f1 logo.......i cant believe nobody told them that their logo would not be seen as the cars actually go quite fast.

Hehe, subtle stuff. £60 million? Jeez, well that's certainly the opposite approach to us! But they have to earn £60 milion just to stand still......whereas we will sleep well at night. The smell of burning fingers fills the air. Title: Re: Competition for Blondepoker room? Post by: 12barblues on April 04, 2006, 03:57:00 AM I think the boss of Mansion sleeps OK.......he's an Indonesian who made $3 BILLION selling his cancer stick business to the Yanks (Phillip Morris, I think).
Title: Re: Competition for Blondepoker room? Post by: thetank on April 04, 2006, 03:57:15 AM Money well spent as far as I'm concerned.
Is it a pokerroom or a casino/sportsbook/pokerroom? Title: Re: Competition for Blondepoker room? Post by: 12barblues on April 04, 2006, 04:00:15 AM If I remember rightly he has a sportsbook business and is setting up a new poker room as an add on!
He is also buying a London casino - the Les Ambassadeurs, or something like that. Title: Re: Competition for Blondepoker room? Post by: tikay on April 04, 2006, 04:06:49 AM It may well turn out to be money well spent, & Mr Moneybags may well have money to burn. But it offends a basic principle which I set great store by. Earn the money first, then spend it, don't spend it before it's been earned. Title: Re: Competition for Blondepoker room? Post by: thetank on April 04, 2006, 04:08:56 AM Not quite as catchy as speculate to accumulate.

Mansion sportsbook opened a few years ago and also included a betting exchange. This created a very strange situation in that it became possible to arb between the sportsbook and the exchange with the same company. Not all that interesting but a strange situation for one company to be in as they were most certainly seeding the liquidity on the exchange. It was launched with a very expensive ad campaign and as far as I can see it is a very small turnover sportsbook, adding a casino and poker room makes perfect sense but $60 million is a massive investment in something so new. At last years wsop I was told Full Tilt had paid 50k to have the huge banner that hung from the ceiling as the players entered the playing area. I chatted to someone about their marketing splurge and plans for the future, this included the revelation that they planned to be in profit before..... 2008.....gulp. I prefer Tikay's way. At $10 million a seat. Phil Ivey is the only one to have reserved a seat so far. Title: Re: Competition for Blondepoker room? Remember, when you Deposit with an Online Card-Room, they hold your cash. And if they go belly-up, what chance do you think you have of recovering that via the law......? For me, I need to be sure we take the cautious route, so that Dave & I can always cover any liability. Title: Re: Competition for Blondepoker room? Well, with our Budget, we cannot afford the High-Flying Super Bees. QPR should be affordable though, & with change to spare. Is Alec Stock still the QPR Manager Keith? Venables still play for them? Title: Re: Competition for Blondepoker room? Post by: tikay on April 04, 2006, 05:40:33 PM What about Stanley Bowles, I liked him :D Ahh, Stan Bowles, who the Bees rescued. Liked a little bet did Stan. Rodney Marsh, too. Guess he's nearly retired now. And the big oaf of a Chairman - Jim Gregory was it? They attempted to take over the Bees, but we were having none of it.
