Title: Longest run without a MTT cash?
Post by: Royal Flush on April 03, 2006, 11:01:57 PM
What's the longest any of you have gone without getting in the money in an MTT?

I am currently 28 with no cash and am losing the will to live!

Do not give up hope young Jedi - some of us have travelled further down this path in the past.

5 Nil, maybe you should stick to MTTs with fewer than three entrants - they seem to be your specialty

20 days 20 hours and 30 minutes. And oddly enough the two tournament i cashed in were a 5th in an omaha hi/lo then a 7th in a 7-card stud game.

My two worst games provided me with my only 2 cashes and final tables in my longest drought earlier this year. (and it was my first ever 7 card stud hi only final table!).

Have cashed in 17.1% of my tourneys since without anything huge its stopped the leak and is slowly refilling the bucket.

Give it time and it will happen :)

Good thing about the Net is 20 odd tournys doesnt feel that many if you play a few a day.

At the moment im on a 5 live tournament without cashing run, and Pomo is on the same. And it feels like the equivalent of going 30 or so online without a cash.

Combined entry fees that we have kindly donated in them 10 tournaments are erm £45,000.

Do we win prize of biggest fish?

that was my last mtt win

and i dont think i have had a final online since

Did you not just win one in Cardiff?

Title: Re: Longest run without a MTT cash?

I have only played 11 mtt in my life.

I guess, I have still to experience the pain of not cashing in them.  So far, I really like the mtt with over 1500 people. But I haven't had any significant results yet ( 3 tiny cashes ).

Yeah you are right Dubai, i havent played much of late, so it feels like weeks. Have had a poor start to the year and if i am being honest i think i have been playing shit for about 6 months.

Oh and yes you are the biggest fish.

Hi Flushy........I think I have just turned the corner from a mega losing streak m8.

2005 was a great year with money placings every 1 . 5 days on average and September was my best month ever. But from October to mid-March I didn't win a tourney and I dont think I got an FT either (would need to check that on OTG). Ok i was gettng in the minor money but after a month or two even they started to dry up. No matter what I did/tried I just couldn't hack it. The bad run was 5 months of hell and I thought it would never relent. Then out of the blue I won the 15k on VC a couple of weeks ago  Unfortunately this was followed by an unbelievable run of ''bubbles'' culminating in four of them last week in the 15k x2, the 45k, the Daddy and 30th in the 100k (Porty pinched the bubble in that one). Funny thing was I knew that I had got my game back on line and was actually content with the bubbles (I'l get locked away for saying that) because I was close to geting it right again.

I know you are aware of my relatively mega success last night Flushy, and thanks for the cograts. I am hoping I've turned the corner at long last but I'm very aware of not getting too confident. I really do hope your bad run never ends up as prolonged as mine......I wouldn't wish it on anyone........except perhaps the fish whotook me out of the 100k :D

James

Stick with it man! - If you feel your playing good, dont change anything! If you think ur playing bad, take a break!

You know how long I went last year (even loosing all my online bankroll at one point)

Shit happens m8, chin up, u'll be back!!

The weekend'll have to have boosted the 'ol confidence a little?

Winning the one-hand only jacket comp and the guess when the dancing nutter stops dancing like a nutter contest. That's quite a combo, you'll be winning online in no-time.

Late last year I did nothing but finish in the money of every Omaha Pot Limit MTT I entered (apart from a couple of bubble placings)...so far this year I've won diddly squat on the OPL front - I guess there's more fish now then what there was - either that or the Omaha regulars have ganged up on me to take me down each time  :D

Title: Re: Longest run without a MTT cash?
Post by: clayftknight on April 04, 2006, 11:15:05 AM
My longest run without a cash is 12 multis.

During a bad run you start to overbet your big hands, not wanting to be outdrawn, this sounds logical but in fact you are only making things worse, because you are increasing the size of the pots you are in and therefore sailing closer to the wind than usual............well, at some point someone will either outplay you or outdraw you, and if you've been betting everything hard to protect your big hands, this one time will cripple you or put you out...and the bad run continues, and the 'bad luck continues...........

So my advice is don't overbet your hands, keep it small, and if you are a good player, the cashes will come again..........also, as bizarre as this sounds, log in to a multi and sit out for 30 minutes........then play, your chance of cashing will go right up, trust me, just do it once or twice.

My longest run without a cash is 12 multis.

For someone who can play 3 or 4 MTT's simultaneously are you honestly saying that you've never gone more than 3 or 4 days without ever cashing in the last 3 years?

Title: Re: Longest run without a MTT cash?
Post by: clayftknight on April 04, 2006, 02:22:39 PM
umm, how do you know how many I'm in lol   are you checking up on me?
If I go 2 days without cashing I'll probably cry, yes 12 in a row, it wasn't a brag, it was "I know how you feel"

When you really want to money, it doesn't take many attempts to do it, but it certainly doesn't involve playing good profitable poker.

Iron...............you can read?

Nope, currently taking a late lunch in work but having seen you play at the same time as i play usually we are in the same 2, 3 or 4 tourneys at the same time on pokerstars. I'm guessing you also play on other sites whereas i only play the one.

If i was checking up on you i'd say that your biggest droughts on pokerstars were 41 days without a cash (19/05/2004 to 30/06/2004), 30 days (15/07/2004 to 14/08/2004) and 23 days (17/09/2005 to 10/10/2005).......... ;)

Post by: clayftknight on April 04, 2006, 02:32:17 PM
In 2004 I wasn't playing Stars much, certainly not like now.
The gap in 2005 probably coincides with a sng period I don't know.
I do know that 12 is my longest not in the money run.

btw

Interesting point, I actually stopped recording my played/monied recently because I feared it was hurting me, my focus was roo much on moneying to improve the 'in the money' average.

Now I just record money out and in, and since I started doing that, mid February, my results have improved hugely.

I have nothing to hide, my money out and in is published since 1st April 2005  at www.clayftknight.com/results.htm

It shows I'm just a mid limit tourney player trying to scrape a profit just like most of us are.

Out of curiosity - when you say MTT would you include a 2 or 3 table sit and go as an MTT? Strictly speaking it isnt a STT.

Title: Re: Longest run without a MTT cash?
Post by: clayftknight on April 04, 2006, 03:17:39 PM
no I don't

But I do include the 90 man $55 and the 180 man $22

but no, 2 and 3 tables are in my mind sngs rather than multis

LOL yes, the dancing nutter guys was a big help!

As for you Nirvana, grrrr.

Cheers clay i don't think i am overbetting, if anything i often play my hands very passive in an attempt to extract the most chips possible from any given situation.

Action son, you have a lot to learn, like don't get your AK in vs another AK and my 77!

I can sense your relief. Variance in multi's is so high bad runs are going to happen to everyone, and its the sign of real poker player if they can deal with that without their game going to shreds.

Keep it up now you've turned the corner. ;)

On my longest run at present. Haven't cashed in an MTT, online or B&M since Nov 05.
Looking back would put it down to 3 things mainly:

1. Not played many to start with, been playing sng mainly(although recently found a very profitable live cash venue!!)
2. Been on one of those runs where big starters, not hitting flop or getting outdrawn.
3. Playing too tight (prob a result of no1)

Having replied earlier in the thread i'm glad to read that "the curse" has been lifted. I remember reading a quote of yours from a thread about a month ago:

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=7299.15

The half hour clock on the ept qualifier really suited my game and i'm really looking forward to the 90 minute clock at the event. Simply because you have a lot more chance to assess your oppos and find decent spots to get your money in.

Or another way, you are playing the worlds best players and they have more room to outplay you. Are you the shark or the fish in that field?

As for styles, i have always been a fan of the chip gathering style, its how i play, but of late its becoming very hard, there are too many people doing it! The 'rock' style is dying out, which is why i am switching too it! You always want to be in the minority in poker.

Do you think that your sudden downturn in form could have something to do with you trying to adapt your usual gameplan into something different to try and counteract the ever changing world of online poker?

Everyone who wants to stay one step ahead of their opponents in the murky depths of online poker needs to evolve their game from time to time if they notice that the tide is changing - but this evolution needs time to develop.

Glad to see that it isnt a one off either - get a few cashes under your belt and the confidence soon returns as well, then there's no stopping you :)up

Yeah Matt i think you may be right. I think the problem is i am stuck between 2 styles! Like you say its hard to make a change especially when i have had a rather unique style for quite a while. I think i will start doing what Red posted he does....i.e. explain evrey play i make as if i was talking to someone next to me through the game.

Cheers Matt
