Title: Poker money V Real money
Post by: RED-DOG on April 04, 2006, 07:49:21 PM
I will travel 100 miles or so, pay a couple of hundred quid to enter a poker competition, bust out in the first hour, and still consider it to be money well spent

On the other hand, I went to buy an old bogey trailer from a farmer today, it was just what I wanted, it had a sturdy chassis on landrover wheels, deep sides, good brakes, working lights, the lot.

After about an hour of long hard haggling, he declared his final asking price to be £125 and I declared my final offer to be £100.

I really wanted this trailer, what do you think happend?

Given that you're posting here, he haggled and you paid £120.

Correct, I left empty handed, the extra £25 seemed really important, had it been a re-buy in a comp I wouldn't have thought twice about it

Half an hour later, he rang to say I could have it for £100

Why did you just not say that you called his reraise, and after a long Carloesque dwell he said

"you win"   :D

because I was pointing out how much more valuable £25 quid seemed when not being used for poker

I take it that it was not Carlo in that case, and I sincerely hope that the axle stays on.

So you mean that the temporary planning permission thingy does not allow you to pay temporary poll tax ?

Therefore no bin men, and presumably no police protection.

That is absolute bollox.  IMHO naturally

I could make an issue of it Ralph, I'm sure they wouldn't have a leg to stand on, but I have more important fish to fry where they are concerned

You have to pick your battles

Having been in a gambling environment all my life the strangest thing I ever saw was at York races one day. Two of my mates had just won £1000 each on a horse and then got into a full blown argument about who's turn it was to buy the drinks. Each accusing each other of being a tight sod.

I think that falls into the real money v gambling money.
