i think that guys opinions were so over exagerated and contradictory that it was all a bit tounge in cheek; he was having a laugh at himself.

i can see how, if you feel strongly about something you can become emersed in a fatuous, deadend debate that is of a negative nature.

Vandam is a friend of mine and a top geezer.

He may have had a pint or two but where's the harm in that ?

It's probably all my fault as I was the one who introduced him to the online version of the game we love.

i can see why you would construe some of the more personal/offensive parts of the thread as unblonde/inappropriote, but from an objective point of view you must agree that the fundemental basis of the thread along with some hilarious posts made for entertaining reading?

he may have inadvertantly crossed the line but i think it was on the wind up!!

Wind ups and heated debate are great and I agree, most entertaining.

If someone is getting seriously offended though, the threads gotta go. Understandable as peoples ability to be there for their family was called into question. Very touchy subject indeed.

Thems the breaks.

Can always start a new thread with a similar line of debate and keep things a little cozier.

I read the first post of the deleted thread - looked over at the wife, struggling to put our baby to bed (he normally goes every night around 7.30, but the last 3 he's been up a bit later) and immediately closed the laptop and took the baby out in the car for a 25min drive until he settled. It was a good tonic, and I'm in the good books.  :)

debating is great, but when someone goes on a drunken rampage, writes off internet players as useless, and belittles anyone who disagrees with him, it makes the thread redundant. It doesn't matter if he is someones friend who posts here a lot.

No we're not in a nanny state, but we are on a moderated forum.

If an offending post is the initial one, the thread kinda doesnt make sense anymore. Sometimes the thread can be fairly old before it becomes clear that it is causing serious offence. Deleting this thread is not the worst mod desicion in the world IMHO.

Was a fun thread, but it comes at too high a price if it upsets folk. There's other ways to get our jollys.

OK everyone, we are going to put the original thread back up...Having had the chance to discuss and reflect amongst ourselves

as the tank correctly says the subject raised in the original post is one that is going to ignite strong views.....one or two posters took things too far but we would rather not delete a whole thread.

I hope no one makes us regret this decision! Keep it civil!

Please also bear in mind that it doesn't matter who's friend he is if he's upsetting people and that not everyone can tell if it is a wind up or not.

If every post that offends some one is deleted, then there aint goin to be a whole lot to read. There is a subltle difference between abuse and offence.  :pop:

everything we do as mods is discussed sometime before the event and sometimes after

if we as mods do our jobs right all our actions are reversable

sometimes it will take time but hopefully after we have review the desions as a team the right choices are made

we sometimes make the wrong choices as indivuals thats why we have a team to discuss it with

on this ocasion the mods felt i made the wrong descion removing the thread as although it was drifting the wrong way there was still time for it to move back before it crossed the line

i have faith in you all that you will have taken that 30 minutes while we discussed it to remember this is blonde and we have standards to uphold

Maybe better to discuss before deleting, but hindsight is easy.

I don't think nipping in the bud is a good policy, just in case a topic should get out of hand.

But there again I didn't want to be a mod and have to make these decisions.

karabiner IMHO discussing while we debate can lead the thread to esclate even futher other mods prefer to leave in disscuss and then remove

we each have our own style

i dont mind admitting when i have made a mistake

and putting back threads i have removed

by doing it my way it also allowed members to think about why it might have been removed and will hopefully restart the thread and move it away from the line it was about to cross

we are all human we all make mistakes

i am not admitting i was wrong to delete the thread but the team felt it was right to move it back and i 100% back that desicion
