Title: checking it down Post by: cambo on April 07, 2006, 06:24:37 PM i have Aspades Ts i raised 1 caller other guy goes all in im sittin with 35k chips raised 3xbb so its only another 2k to call 1st caller does the same . flop comes Qh Tc 5d , he checks i check , next card a blank , other guy bets the full pot i fold . turns out both of them have ak and split the pot.
i was a bit miffed by this as i thought he should have checked it down. didnt cost me a whole lot but still, is this a play anyone else would make? or isit an acceptable play to make to take me out the pot and leave him heads up with the all inner? Title: Re: checking it down Post by: GlasgowBandit on April 07, 2006, 06:41:43 PM If I thought I thought I could get you off the pot Cambo and get heads up with someone all in I would make a bet at it, it serves him no purpose to have you in the pot til the end if all thats going to happen is both of you split it. HAd you called I bet he'd have been annoyed!
Title: Re: checking it down Post by: Ironside on April 07, 2006, 06:53:11 PM it all depends
if you are on the bubble and both have less than average stacks then it best to check it down and let one of you take out the all in player but more often than not i will bet into a dry pot if the outcome of losing the pot is in my favour ie keeping 2 short stacks on the table instead of 1 larger stack Title: Re: checking it down Post by: portfolio on April 07, 2006, 06:57:38 PM big difference btween BLUFFING a dry pot than betting an actual hand into a dry pot.
Title: Re: checking it down Post by: Royal Flush on April 07, 2006, 07:01:25 PM AK vs a shortstack on a QTx flop is a good hand, you could easily be ahead and if not you can hit a lot of cards. I would probably bet here but depends on the situation.

This is pretty common in STTs when 4 remain. But in a larger MTT, the goal is to when the overall comp and not just get your money back. I can see betting to narrow the field as it only benefits the ones remaining in the pot. After all the goal is to accumulate chips to give yourself the best chance of winning not making your money back. Just an alternate stategy. You may have considered a call if you think it is worth the risk to give you more chips for later - and you have enough left if you lose.
