Title: Did I do the right thing? Post by: bru7162 on April 10, 2006, 02:06:38 AM Been a regular viewer for a while but haven't had the guts to post frankly. Still learning the game and don't want to embarass myself lol.
Anyway I've been playing online for a year or so and played my first live games in a casino recently. I got to the final table the last time I played, had roughly 8000 in chips with the blinds at 500 and 1000. Chip leader had about 30000 so I guess the average would've been around 15-20000 by this stage. In the second hand of the final table I was BB and it folded round to the dealer button who raised all-in for nearly 9000. I looked down at Ad Kh I probably should have thought about it longer than the ten seconds I did before calling but I quickly went all-in and ended up busting out of the tourney when the dealer button's 8s 8c held up. Analysing the hand I've convinced myself that I made a correct call. I had played against the guy at an earlier table and knew he was capable of a steal. I don't think he would've went all-in with aces or kings so I would've been getting reasonable pot odds, I believe, with two overcards. Had I doubled up there was more chance of cashing overall too, even winning the thing! I do have this gnawing doubt that I should have folded and at least got some more experience of a final table however. What I would like to know is what would a pro have done, or the many more enthusiasts on here who are far better and more experienced than me? Cheers Title: Re: Did I do the right thing? Post by: NoflopsHomer on April 10, 2006, 02:13:16 AM Firstly, :hello: and welcome to Blonde.
Here you just lost a coinflip, so don't worry. At least some of the time you should find yourself dominating weaker aces and occasionally up against complete rags. Title: Re: Did I do the right thing? Post by: jezza777 on April 10, 2006, 02:23:57 AM hi, congrats on the final table ,
There is no way I fold Ak in the BB to a button raise unless I have a specific tell or other information on the player. I would hope to be dominating a weaker ace , or even be against 2 random cards on a steal. I would not be too distraught to see the 88 turned over either AK is never too far behind most hands so I think you played it fine . The fact that you are prepared to get your chips in the middle on your first live final table speaks volumes. good luck jezza Title: Re: Did I do the right thing? Title: Re: Did I do the right thing? Post by: Bongo on April 10, 2006, 02:46:57 AM My chips would be in so fast there would be scorch marks on the table!
You're unlucky to find him with a hand but even so you're still about 50:50 and a nice double up would have put you in a good position to score one of the higher places where most of the money is... Title: Re: Did I do the right thing? Post by: ACE2M on April 10, 2006, 10:00:11 AM You can be fairly sure he doesn't hold AA or KK and if you can eliminate those hands then worst case scenario is your a small dog, best case you have him dominated holding a weak ace or a KQ type hand. I would have beaten him into the pot.
When you reach the final you must aim for the top 2/3 places as that is where the decent money is. Title: Re: Did I do the right thing? Post by: bru7162 on April 11, 2006, 12:52:16 AM Thanks guys. I really appreciate the helpful advice and words of encouragement.
knowing I made the correct decision has given me the confidence I'm going to need to improve my game. Good to know I haven't done my image at the casino any damage also. Couldn't help thinking the others may have labelled me a 'sucker' for making that move. Augurs well for the future 8) |
