Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: thetank on April 10, 2006, 09:50:14 PM Learning to beat the game is priority number one.
If you don't get that down, it doesn't matter how big your bankroll is. Internet forums are a great resource for learning poker. Try the search feature on this site for whatever you want to know. If you still have questions give us a shout. Helps if the question is a little more specific, as we're a bunch of sarky bunch of so and sos. Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: tikay on April 10, 2006, 10:14:42 PM Come on blondes, we are not being very helpful to a new Member here...... 1). Try & find a small-stake, local, home game. Where do you live? Tell us, & we may have a game local to you. 2) Play the Freerols on any online cardroom. 3) Find someone, a mate, to take you to a Casino Tourney for your first, Live, low-stake game. If none of those any good, let us know. Ohh, & have a good look round our Forum, you can learn a lot just by mixing with, & chatting to, fellow poker players. Good Luck! Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: TightEnd on April 10, 2006, 10:18:56 PM £5 comps sunday afternoon in my local casino...most around the country will provide buyins as low as this
tell us where you live, we have access to home game info in most parts.... Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: vegaslover on April 10, 2006, 10:42:59 PM If your playing online, just enter as many freerolls aas possible, I used these to gain my bankroll on all the Prima sites. Also teaches you to play 'proper' poker, well did me anyway.
i also use freerolls when starting on a new site to get used to the software, layout, etc Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: ACE2M on April 10, 2006, 10:47:05 PM i'll stake you heads up against tikay, thats basically free money.

The astute bonuswhore can play for ever at lower limits without ever paying a cent in net rake.
Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: moritzey on April 11, 2006, 12:33:23 AM Don't bother with play-money tables on pokersites, they're usually just all-in fests, go for some freerolls instead (party doing several $500 a day and some WSOP qualifier, too).
Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: mex on April 11, 2006, 12:45:20 AM blue square do a totally free freeroll every week day night, it has a $200 pool and various styles PL/NL etc. play 20 of these then cash out to blonde poker and get a bonus, then work the stt pyramid.

Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: theboss on April 11, 2006, 11:27:11 AM MY advice, download the blondepoker.com online card room, and practice in many play for practice games. These cost you nothing, then on Monday night Blondepoker have a Freeroll with no entry requirements, enter that and try and make your way into the cash.
Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: tikay on April 11, 2006, 04:50:34 PM You may be pleased to know that Chriswan PM'd me & thanked us for the advice the blondes had given him. Title: Re: New player, no bankroll Post by: Raindogs on April 11, 2006, 05:51:20 PM What type of game are you looking to play, tournaments or cash ?
If you don't have much money to put in and want to play cash I suggest you try low limit holdem to start. I started with $80 at .5/1 limit and built my bankroll up and gradually and moved up limits when my bankroll was large enough and I could beat the game consistantly at the level I was playing at. No limit or pot limit cash games are not a good place to start for a beginner. If you are an absolute beginner you should learn the game at the play tables before you start playing for money, just don't expect the real thing to be the same. You could also try the micro limit cash games (.05/.10) once you have aquainted yourself with the software at the play tables. If you make a decent deposit to one of the sites that offer a signup bonus you can play off your bonus while learning the game without it actually costing you anything. If you want to play tournaments most of the online sites offer low buy in tournaments for $0.5 to $2 depending on the site. I wouldn't try a casino until you have at least a reasonable knowledge of the game. Some people can get a bit shirty with absolute newbies in my experience. The lowest buy in casino tourney I know of around near me is a £5 rebuy but you would probably end up spending a lot more than that. Most of the casino tourneys are all rebuys so you won't know how much each tourney is going to cost you before you play. Once you have learned how to play it is much more fun playing live than on line (the downside is you can't play live in you underpants). If you need any advice on playing live there are plenty of people on this forum who can help with rules, etiquette etc.. As a general guideline the recommended bankroll for playing limit is between 300 - 500 BB, so if you were starting at .5/1 you would need a bankroll of $300 - $500. In practice 200BB is usually enough unless you hit a really bad run. The key thing is to start playing at a level you are confortable with. If you start playing at too high a level and lose all your money it can be a disheartning start.
