Title: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: The Truth on April 12, 2006, 09:00:52 PM I am in the process of putting together a couple of sponsored parachute jumping days for Game for Life. This post is to judge interest (a Blonde only day is an option if thats what paople want and it's ok with TK). If people can get sponsorship of between £350 - £400 the jumps will be free.
Obviously with any event of this nature certain restrictions apply. Women have to be under 12 stone and Gents have to be under 15 stone (rules me out I am afraid) also anyone 49 years or over will need a med cert signed by their doctor. All jumpers need to be 18 years or over. If you are interested or have any further questions please add to this thread. Thanks to all at Blonde for their continued support. Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: thetank on April 12, 2006, 09:10:35 PM I'm off to weigh myself.
I dont fancy my chances. Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: Jim-D on April 12, 2006, 09:15:08 PM Im very interested,
When will this be happening and do i need an application form/sponsorship form Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: Ironside on April 12, 2006, 09:16:58 PM when i was in the army i was offered the chance to make a jump from a plane with a perfectly good engine and a perfect undercarrage my answer then nearly got me 7 days in the nick
because i am a polite person i will not repeat my answer but the answer is the same Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: The Truth on April 12, 2006, 09:18:43 PM Looking to have a couple of separate dates in July / August one in North, one in the South. Application and sponsorship forms will be ready once the dates are set. If anyone has preferred dates or DEFFO NO dates please PM them to me and we will try to work around them.

Tandem or static line dependant on what the participant prefers. Most centres steer the over 40's towards tandem jumps. Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: ariston on April 12, 2006, 09:57:01 PM what about if we got kev 2 parachutes? Ok he will need twice the sponsorship but even him could make a new 30 stone weight limit.

Post by: bundle on April 13, 2006, 12:23:41 AM I think since you will be traveling about 250 Miles per hour, the less blubber you have the better it will be for everyone involved. If you tandem the first thing the instructor has to do on exiting the plane is stabilize the weight, it might be for comfort but I’m sure there is a safety factor in there too.
Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: Ironside on April 13, 2006, 12:32:47 AM tandem you ideally shouldnt wieght much more than your partner but static line weight is more a comfort thing
Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: bundle on April 13, 2006, 12:39:17 AM I’m not even sure what static line is, at a guess I would say it’s like the old war films where the chute opened immediately on leaving the plane, I guess at much less altitude than skydiving
Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: Karabiner on April 13, 2006, 12:43:51 AM I would just like to point out to Ironside that an infant weighing one stone,

Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: Ironside on April 13, 2006, 12:53:48 AM the friction alone on the bodysize would mean kiv would be slower

You will lose loads of dosh if you bet. but accleration due to size would mean kiv would fall faster and due to friction in the air that would slow down but kiv would hit the ground faster than snoopy Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: Ironside on April 13, 2006, 12:57:11 AM ps if snoopy and kiv are up for it i am willing to fly the plane and test this theory
Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: bundle on April 13, 2006, 01:03:28 AM The only way to test this theory would be to sling them out the plane without a chute.
I'm sure they should be ok with it rotflmfao rotflmfao Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: thetank on April 13, 2006, 01:08:57 AM The greater air resistance in an extremely light object, such as a ferather, would slow it down.
One stone would fall at the same rate as 20 though. Karabiner is correct, Kiv and Snoopy would fall at the same speed. Although without parachutes, Kiv would create a far larger crater. Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: bundle on April 13, 2006, 01:19:46 AM I really don’t know about the physics in this, but I can say when I did this the instructor in class prior to the jump told us we would be traveling at 250mph for 6.5k feet then chute opens and it all depends on the instructor for the last 8k feet.
Some people were 15 stone and some 8 stone, he said we would be moving at 250mph So I guess size makes no difference to the speed here Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: Ironside on April 13, 2006, 01:21:51 AM weight makes no differnece but size does
Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: ifm on April 13, 2006, 01:24:05 AM i'm willing to swear that Kev is under 15 st and therefore able to jump
Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: thetank on April 13, 2006, 01:42:20 AM Ok Ironside, I concede the larger surface area of a Kiv would mean he would meet with more air resistance and consequently fall slower.
You were right, I was wrong. If Kiv and Snoopy jumped out of a plane without chutes, the Colchester chap would win any last longer side action. Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: Ironside on April 13, 2006, 01:57:51 AM i want this tested

Post by: Claw75 on April 14, 2006, 10:27:27 AM I've been giving this some thought over the past couple of days and, though the idea of freefalling from a plane scares the poo out of me it's something I'd love to overcome and I'm sure it would be a fantastic experience. Not sure I'll be able to raise that level of sponsorship though - how much will the jump cost if I can't?

Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump? Post by: The Truth on April 14, 2006, 01:38:43 PM Poker4Charity / Game for Life Charity Parachute Jump Procedures
All Game for Life Charity Jumps are organised by Skydive Zone – www.skydivezone.co.uk Skydive Zone recommend that all first time charity jumpers opt for the Tandem Freefall option to provide for the most enjoyable and thrilling experience. Jumps take place on Saturdays. Jumpers select the date they wish to jump on and the location at which they wish to jump. If people wish to jump on the same date at the same location this is not a problem. Game for Life receives a MINIMUM of £140 / jump. The cost of the jump is £375 including the MINIMUM £140 charity contribution How it works: Prospective jumper requests an application pack from Andy at Skydive Zone by emailing jump@skydivezone.co.uk quoting Game for Life. Andy will then dispatch an application to jump form. The jumper then completes the form and returns it to Andy along with a deposit of £70. You can reimburse yourself this amount with your sponsor money, once collected. On receipt of the deposit Game for Life will issue the sponsorship form. The sponsorship forms are not normally issued until after the deposit as an anti-fraud measure. However those supporters known to us can get their sponsorship forms in advance (from Tuesday). Jumper is then free to start obtaining sponsorship. One week prior to the jump the minimum £140 donation to charity needs to be paid to Skydive Zone. You may need to pay this yourself until you collect your sponsor money, therefore, for your convenience, this cheque can be post-date for up to 1 month so you are able to reimburse yourself. If there are difficulties with this contact Poker4Charity / Game for Life, we may be able to help. You attend the parachute centre to complete your jump. At this time you will pay the balance of your jump fee directly to the parachute centre, unless stated otherwise in your confirmation letter. After your jump contact Skydive Zone and they will forward the sponsorship money to Game for Life without delay. Any excess sponsorship money over the minimum £140 should also be sent to Skydive Zone for passing on to Game for Life. All successful jumpers will receive a Game for Life / Skydive Zone certificate. Please note that ALL costs of the jump itself can be reimbursed as long as the £140 minimum is paid to Game for Life. Examples If the jumper raises £140 the cost of the jump to the jumper is £235 and Game for Life receives £140. If the jumper raises £375 the cost of the jump to the jumper is £NIL and Game for Life receives £140. If the jumper raises £500 the cost of the jump to the jumper is £NIL and Game for Life receives £265. Hope this is clear if not please email me davey.newth@game4life.org Thank you for your support Title: Re: Anyone fancy a jump?
