Title: Best poker book? Post by: Maroon on July 18, 2005, 06:30:54 PM I've just read super system2 and am half way through Caro's poker tells and started wondering what is the best poker book out there?
Title: Re: Best poker book? Post by: TightEnd on July 18, 2005, 06:43:51 PM I thoroughly recommend Harrington vols 1 and 2....superb, the best I have read. One guy I know calls them the old and new testament!
Anything by Sklansky is a must read too Title: Re: Best poker book? Post by: redsimon on July 18, 2005, 07:09:53 PM My favourite poker book offers no advice on how to play AQ utg or such stuff...its "Shut Up and Deal" by Jesse May. A classic of its time.

Title: Re: Best poker book? Post by: Sheriff Fatman on July 18, 2005, 07:41:22 PM It depends on what games you're playing.
The two Harrington tournament books are the ones to go for if you play tournaments or SnG's. Book 1 is also very good for general NLHE play. For limit games, Small Stakes Hold Em by Ed Miller and Holdem Poker for Advanced Players by Sklansky and Malmuth are must reads. I'd also recommend Weighing The Odds in Holdem Poker by King Yao. Also, Sklansky's Theory of Poker is a must read for and covers the underlying theory behind several games and uses examples from a lot of them. Finally, avoid anything by Phil Hellmuth or Ken Warren like the plague. Sheriff Title: Re: Best poker book? Post by: snoopy1239 on July 19, 2005, 12:57:36 AM Helmuth's 'Play Poker Like The Pros' is quite possibly the worst book I've read on poker so far.
My advice? Go for Cloutier if you're a beginner. Then move onto Harrington's recent efforts. Then push on to Poker System. Title: Re: Best poker book? Post by: Maroon on July 19, 2005, 01:01:56 AM Agree on Play Poker Like The Pros. Was winning at micro limits as a beginner consistently. Decided to learn more and read Play and lost every day for nearly a month!
Read Super system 2 and changed my game completely and got back on an even keel bankroll wise. Title: Re: Best poker book? Post by: Shaa on July 20, 2005, 11:05:34 AM I found both Super System 1 and 2 to basically be the same for NL holdem basically get your money in even though you are behind and outdraw every opponent. Luckily enough Crypto have been very kind to me over the past few months :)
