Title: N/P: PC Help Required.
Post by: Nem on April 14, 2006, 08:02:50 PM
I have just upgraded my memory on my laptop, since the upgrade my cursor has had a mind of its own. It seems like whenever I fill in a form/password/web address etc... it starts moving all over my screen, freezing even disappearing??? I have changed back to the old memory and even done a system restore but it is still happening.

My friend says I should do a complete reformat with the new memory in place, but I'm reluctant to do this due to all my PokerTracker data etc...

Any advice?

Seems a bit obvious but have you reinstalled the mouse drivers?

does ur laptop have a "touch" screen thing on the keyboard as well as a navigation ball? maybe that isn't configured properly if the mouse is whizzing around all over the plac, might have to amend the sensitivity of it... but eh, I have no clue

save the stuff you want to save to disk or transfer to your desktop PC (if you have one) then reformat and reinstall windows

i like seeing people doing formats but only do it if you know what your doing cause if i had 1p for the amount of times i have had phone calls from people who havent a clue half way thru the format i wouldnt need to win the wsop

Apparently they are not Pringles, they are a half pack of Polos.

Yeah, I know how to do a reformat, but surely there's a easier way to fix my problem.

A complete system restore shouldnt be necessary. What connection is your mouse? ps/2 or USB? If its ps/2 get a USB mouse ;)

No I haven't. As it's a Laptop touch pad, it would mean me taking the whole computer apart and that would take ages. Also, I don't think it's a dirt problem, as it has only been going crazy since I upgraded the memory.

Try an external mouse see how you get on.

Check the Bios settings havent been reset when you removed the power to replace the memory.

Also try replaceing the nipple.

Memory upgrade should not cause this problem.

Well,

I turned the computer off last night with the laptop having a mind of its own and the cursor behaving erratically. I wake up this morning and all is well, the laptop doesn't have a mind of its own and the cursor is behaving itself.

Modern technology, eh. ;tk; ;tk; ;tk;
