Title: Deep into a Stars Deepstack... then the red mist descends... Post by: RioRodent on April 17, 2006, 09:19:16 AM I'd played a couple of these sometime ago and both times did something stupid about 2 hours in... decided I didn't have the patience for it and gave them up.
Well, I've recently returned to playing at PokerStars, I had just read of RED-DOG's 2nd place yesterday when I noticed a $10 deepstacks tournament starting in a couple of minutes, at 7.00 pm... so I decide to give it a go. Almost 9 hours later there are 12 of the 903 starters left and I have just taken the chip lead. ;applause; A couple of hands later, I find Ks Kd in the 'cut off', 700k in chips... two fold to me, I raise to 3 x BB (36000)... button folds... SB goes all-in with 175k... BB folds... I call. SB has Ahrt Qs... making me appx 3/1 fav (I think). Flop Ts Qd Ac... no help to me on turn or river... my riegn as chip leader didn't last long, back down to 3rd place with appx 560k. 3 hands later and still sulking over my 'bad beat'... I have Kd Ts in the BB. They fold to the cut off (appx 650k chips), who raises to 3 x BB (still 36000)... and why not, he had done this every time in this situation since he came to the table... button and SB fold... Red Mist is begining to form... I call. Flop is 5d Th 5h... I bet 60k into an 81k pot... matey raises to 144k... I don't believe him and totally oblivious to the fact that he is the only person on the table who can knock me out - I re-raise all-in... he thinks for a moment or two and calls. He has Aspades Jc!!! Again appx 3/1 fav... and I thought I was on 'tilt'!! However, turn is 6d... and then that damn river card... Jh :redcard: Out in 12th place for the princely sum of $90.31... that's a whole $10 / hr! ;karabiner; 9 hours of good play and then 'hero to zero' in two hands!!!! The question is - Why didn't I just fold and give up my BB? After all, this time he actually had a legitimate hand to raise with pre-flop. Cheers, RR 8) PS: I know this is a thinly disguised bad beat story (well two actually and not very well disguised), but I had to get this off my chest... where do I send the £1 to? Title: Re: Deep into a Stars Deepstack... then the red mist descends... Post by: Indestructable on April 17, 2006, 10:08:35 AM It may not help much but I would have played the same way.
PS send the £1 to me. Title: Re: Deep into a Stars Deepstack... then the red mist descends... Post by: Robert HM on April 17, 2006, 10:10:42 AM each of us, that's £3,000. The price of bad beat stories has gone up.
Unlucky btw. Title: Re: Deep into a Stars Deepstack... then the red mist descends... Post by: mex on April 17, 2006, 10:11:06 AM Because that would be trying to creep into the money, and you have to go for chips, thats exactly what you did and you were ahead.
You were showing this guy you weren't going to stand for his aggression, and hand or no hand preflop. When the flop came down, helong so you have to beprepared is looking at potential flush draw, potential open end str8 draw, trips, over pair AK AQ or even a pair as you had in this case, as you say hands he's all been made a bitch to, best case here is he's taking on a pair HE KNOWS HE IS BEHIND, and he still reraises,KNOWING YOU REALLY HAVE TO CALL. Case of UL and wp.......... |
