Title: How bad did you used to be? Post by: simonjjj on April 20, 2006, 02:48:21 PM How bad a player did you use to be? I have been playing for around two years now and i used to call raises with all sorts of crap provided they were suited. 9s 3s, 4d Td you name it. When i hit my 9-high flush 9h 5h i used to wonder why the betting was going crazy on a board like this Th 8h 2s 2h Qc. ahahhahahahah i was crazy man. Gives me alot of comfort knowing that there's loads of other crazy players out there right now doing the same thing and worse.

Post by: Poppet7 on April 20, 2006, 02:58:34 PM When I first started I was so terrible I had ruthless take me to one side and she gave me a good talking to. Later on that week she was at my house practising £1 STTs on william hill which helped me improve slightly. I would let the blinds eat me away until I was out. Another thing I was quite bad at was during STTs I would do ok until there were about 4 or 5 left, thetank had been watching so pressured me to bubble bully. Another thing that thetank noticed was that I was limping A LOT. I still haven't quite got the guts to raise every hand I intend to play, I still limp a bit, but I've improved!
I've still got loads and loads and loads to learn, but I'd like to say I've improved since September. Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Post by: Bongo on April 20, 2006, 03:00:18 PM Very.
Some would say I still am ;) Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Im glad i help you out sophie, and your game has come along way. That day i came around yours i found that you was very scared to call raises and to put raises in yourself, but after showing you how to play the players it opened your eyes. You have to have aggression in your game to win, you can't just rely on good starting hands, or luck. you need to be aggressive at the right time, and know how to control it also, which i find hard to do some times.I've still got loads and loads and loads to learn, but I'd like to say I've improved since September. But having this in your game has help, you dont get shy now when someone bets, you understand now that somtimes they are just asking a question, and not betting becasue they have something! It took me sometime to rerasie in my game, but now i do it all the time. You have to know where you are in a hand 8) Roll on to your 1st live mtt Win :)up Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Post by: ACE2M on April 20, 2006, 04:43:12 PM I had an amusing argument with a bloke in walsall a while ago who in his own words had been playing for years.
We both had a pair of kings and his kicker was a J and mine a Q, he insisted it didn't matter as only the pair counted. In the end i just picked up all the chips and the dealer delt the next hand pretty sharpish, he chirped on for about 10 mins after until he was knocked out. Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Post by: tikay on April 20, 2006, 04:58:50 PM I played in last years Deauville EPT, & a journo next to me, clearly on a freebie, called all-in with AJ & lost to T-T. Dealer pushes the chips to TT guy, Journo says "hey, I win - I got 21"..... He is (or was...) the Poker Correspomdent for one of the quality dailies....... Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Post by: Mr F on April 20, 2006, 08:32:55 PM I'm firmly cemented in the ask me next year crew. But I'm thankful for people like the guy in my local who still refuses to believe me that someone who checks can re-raise and not just call a bet.
Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Post by: Claw75 on April 21, 2006, 09:38:57 AM Another 'ask me again next year'. Only been playing about 5 months, so still lots and lots to learn.
Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Post by: mex on April 21, 2006, 09:48:55 AM when i 1st started i had a thing about J10,i figured that face cards always seemed to come out, and that i'd have a draw for str8 at least a pair or 2 overs. I think when i started i only ever considered my cards not my opponents. A mistake a lot make when starting online. I also seemed to think pok#cket pairs where the nuts.
The biggest change was when i started to look ahead in the hand, what bet will they make on the turn? if i bet the flop will he flat call and then check me on turn and river giving me free draw? BTW watching T4 how hot has June Sarpong got in the last few years...............sry distracted Title: Re: How bad did you used to be? Post by: TEXAS_JAY on April 22, 2006, 02:32:58 AM Thinking back to when I started I played those play money tables, managed to accumulate 100K in chips over a few months,I thought I was the beezneez so opened a real money account then realised just how TERRIBLE i really was.I didnt know anything bout positioning or working a way at getting maximum pay. eg- I'd get dealt Ad Ac and 1st to act and I'd just push allin, every1 would fold and Id show my hand (really proud of my pocket rockets ;D) Not only did I win a measley 30chips in blinds but the other players on my table would take the p*ss :dontask: whereas on the play money tables I'd always gets 1 call or sometimes 5 and 9 outta 10 times they'd hold up, the other players would say WP and NH to me..lol..wot a fishhhh I was..ermm still am, but slowly growing.
Something I've heard mentioned but still know nothing about is the 'under raise', anyone help me on this?? Thks. TJ |
