Title: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 21, 2005, 07:35:57 PM I never got the chane to play much poker whilst I was in Vegas, but I did play just enough to get a "taste" of poker in the USA, & I loved it. I also have an ambition to play a WPT Event. Ideas above my station? Absolutely, but it's on that tick list of mine, to play a WPT, & that's all there is to it, so one day I will. (please supress the smirks & giggles...).
Now, as it happens, I picked up a mag in Vegas, & was leafing through it last night, & I saw that The Bicycle Casino has a WPT Event from August 27th to 31st. But the thing that caught my eye was the entry fee - $5,000, which is, I guess, around 3,000. Is that the cheapest WPT event around? I thought $10k was the minimum. $5k seems much more do-able. And where is The Bicycle Casino? (So I can assess flight time & cost). It's definitely caught my interest...... Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: redsimon on July 21, 2005, 08:17:10 PM Bike is in LA. http://www.thebike.com/index.php
I think UBs Aruba thingy in September is $5000 + $200 as well. Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 21, 2005, 08:53:48 PM Thanks Red. Anyone else tempted by the Bike's WPT? (Nearly put - "anyone else tempted by the Bike", but thought it might get a bit smutty...). Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: Karabiner on July 21, 2005, 08:58:20 PM Is it in San Francisco or LA ?
Memory fails. Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 21, 2005, 09:02:44 PM Red says LA. He's NEVER wrong. (Apart from his views on Forest).

Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 21, 2005, 11:45:22 PM Oh no, I can feel the temptation to do this.... Anyone else on here likely to play it? Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: redsimon on July 22, 2005, 08:58:36 AM Is it in San Francisco or LA ? Memory fails. I seem to recall its in a suburb of LA, Bell Gardens. Definitely not SF. I would be up for it Tikay if it was later in year. I'm definitely pencilling in Reno next Feb/March...health permitting. (Mainly 'cos they (Reno) have a cracking supporting schedule) Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: Div on July 22, 2005, 10:44:30 AM I've seen numerous comments elsewhere suggesting the The Bicycle, and other Southern Californian casinos, attract the loosest, wildest players going.
So, you might have a good shot at making the trip pay for itself! Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 22, 2005, 11:30:02 AM The schedule at The Bicycle is pretty neat too though dominated by NLH. Bizarrely, they have 2 Omaha Hi-Lo events, but not a single "straight" Omaha comp - & there are over 30 comps!
But I think that if I went, I'd just do the last week - it's a 5 week jobbie! Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: maid marion on July 22, 2005, 04:11:12 PM Tikay - Nick is going to the Bicycle Casino in LA for the WPT event. He went last year & said that the cash games were good too (maybe lots of fishy fish) - so he is heading over on the 20th August.
We are also going on the Aruba trip - go on be tempted Tikay so we can see those shorts for real ;) LOL A xxx Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 22, 2005, 04:46:57 PM Jeez, I am getting tempted. Think I need to get my feet back on the ground.
How is Nick. That was THE most awful exit he had in he WSOP. Give him a hug from me. Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: RED-DOG on July 22, 2005, 05:19:08 PM I would like an idea how much the trip would cost, probably wont go but at least I'll know how much Im saving
Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: maid marion on July 22, 2005, 05:56:09 PM Nick is good. He arrived back on Monday - not happy with the hand he went out on, unsurprisingly. But I think he did brilliantly to finish 53rd out of 5800 runners & with only a handful of brits left.
He flew out to Cork this afternoon with Action Jack to play at the Macau Sporting Club in the Irish Classic. Great news about Dave's result in Paris - when are you heading out to Paris? Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 22, 2005, 06:23:17 PM Monday. I wish I cold do Cork, I really do, but its the game4Life do this weekend, & that has to take priority. I spoke to ActionJack today, he was trying to persuade me to do Cork I think, but I just can't. Nick's exit? If anyone is not aware of how he busted out, & wants to know, post here & I'll put the hand up. It was just awful - great play, a great read, and a nightmare turn card. Truly, one of the unluckiest exits I have ever seen, simply because Nick totally outplayed the guy - and lost. Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: redsimon on July 22, 2005, 07:13:19 PM Didnt some guy call with 32? and hit the dummy end of a straight...I thought those plays happened in a 10 comp not a $10K one ???
Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 22, 2005, 07:17:52 PM Something like that Red.
Nick's got K-9 in SB, & makes up, Matey Boy in BB raises it up with 2-3. Nick reads this perfectly, & calls. Flop is K-6-5. Nick bets, Matey Boy RR's, Nick calls. Now the thing is, Matey Boy is NOT betting to hit his gutshot straight, he's playing to force Nick off whatever hand he may have. So again, Nick reads the guy spot on - he's got niothing. You can guess the turn. Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: ifm on July 23, 2005, 02:42:35 AM i really do hate to say it, and i know i'm in for some harrassment but..............if he has such a good "read" why not reraise?
or was it posted wrong and the fella put nick allin? Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 23, 2005, 04:27:02 AM I cant really recall to be honest Ian. But it musta hurt, whatever. Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: wsopin07 on July 23, 2005, 06:54:57 AM NICK PLAYED AND IS OWED MORE RESPECT THAN MY WIN, I think we (blonde) should have a party for him while I am in London and I will pay for the deal!!!! Lets roll w/ it boys!!!!
Tikay, I will be the 1st to say that I will but 10% of any event that you play in the US, thats putting my money where my big mouth is. ANYONE ELSE????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 23, 2005, 10:21:42 AM Wow, that's showing a lot of confidence in a regular guy Brian, especially as you have never seen me play.
Thank you. Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 23, 2005, 10:24:42 AM Oh wait, that's wrong, I just remembered. We played in a $500 SNG, & I bust you out first hand, as I now recall. I think I cunningly played some junk, & then made a huge & brave call to bust you out.
Silly me, nearly forgetting that. xx Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: Royal Flush on July 23, 2005, 01:46:21 PM Nick was trapping the fella, as is needed at this stage of the comp. it was time for chip accumulation and Nick got unlucky that when the turn came he commited himself with a check raise and just happened to have run into the str8.
The point is the guy would have made the move with any hand on the turn, and Nick had put the fella on fa, which was right, just unlucky that the freecard was the killer. IMO it was perfect play for this stage of the comp, the first 5000 players are about survival, the last 500 are about CHIPS CHIPS and CHIPS! Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 23, 2005, 02:11:55 PM That explains it so much beter than I ever could.
The WHOLE POINT was that the geezer was NOT drawing to the straight, nor did he think he was ahead pre-flop - that's impossiible, with 2-3! He was simply playing to force Nick off his hand. Nick read this perfectly, pre & post flop, AND hit his top pair. The rest is history, but to my mind, and at THAT stage, of THAT comp, it was horrendous. I don't have any flag to fly for Nick. But he IS one of those guys who has a very special game. At the time he exited, he was one of a handful of guys who, in my opinion, had the game, & the balls, to Final. I've seen the guy make THE most amazing calls in comps - I particularly recall one at Luton against the enfant terrible, Richard Gryko, with bottom pair, when RG bet it every street. Believe me, Nick has game, and some. Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: portfolio on July 24, 2005, 01:03:25 AM surely the point is are going to play this WPT event??
only a clash of dates with p4c newcastle can stop u!!! Title: Re: WPT at The Bicycle Casino, 27th - 31st August Post by: tikay on July 24, 2005, 04:45:16 AM Looking ever more likely......
