Title: Walsall Word Series
Post by: RED-DOG on April 24, 2006, 12:07:24 AM

Well not really, it was the monthly £300 freeze-out, but we got 7000 starting chips, (3500x2) and a 45-minute clock.

It was a superbly well-run tournament, there were 137 runners playing for over 40k in prize money, and there was not one single argument. The dealers were great, we were waited on hand and food by gorgeous valets, (two of whom I’m in love with) and there was an excellent free buffet. Everything ran like clockwork, it was a pleasure to play.

It was a classy field, boasting, among others, these notables

Micky “The Legend” Wernick, top place finisher in the Will Hill European Rankings. Some say he is almost as old as tikay, I don’t know if I would go as far as that, but Micky has seen it all, done it all, and looks like he’s gonna keep on doing it for the foreseeable future

WSOP bracelet winner Lord Lawrence Gosney of Leeds. Playing poker with Lawrence is like sleeping with a Mafia Don’s girlfriend, very exciting, but one wrong move and you’re history.

J P Kelly. Schoolboy prodigy who has an entry in the Guinness book of records as the most prolific pre pubescent poker player of all time.

The Mad Turk. Who's greatest claim to fame is being mad.

Tony “Hello dear, I’m tikay off the telly, do you want my autograph?” Kendal.

Ali Malu. Serial winner who couldn’t put a hand down if it was attached to a rotting corpse.

Jen Mason. She was the Usual Suspect winner, and she thrilled us all in Monte Carlo. Everyone loves her; she’s poker’s answer to Vera Lynn.

“Colchester” Kev. The world’s only professional rail bird (Thank God) imagine having two of him.

“Burnley” John Falconer. Who caught more bullets than Ned Kelly, then got involved is a three way all in situation with the worst hand, and came out the winner. Credit where it’s due though, when he got busted out a little while later by an outdraw, he never breathed a word about it (and if you believe that, you will believe anything)

“The Nun” Maureen is the queen of the satellites and a great substitute for viagra

Adam “Snoopy” Golding. Writer, updater, moderator, poker player, and my future son in law, (although there have been rumours that my daughter may have competition) not bad going for someone who is prematurely bald and anorexic.

Congratulations to all concerned, I have, on occasion, had more fun than I did playing the £300 freeze-out at Walsall, but it always involves being naked and sticky.

Well done RED. Great to see you pick up another win, especially a live one... which is often somewhat more satisfying.

Top job!

 ;applause; :respect:

And that last line is pure genius. I'm stealing it.  :D

Red, what did you think of the payout structure and was a deal done at the end?

I thought the pay-out structure was poor, and I can't imagine a player of RED's style would be too chuffed with it either.

After Red went in 4th it was time for a break ... no hands were played after as a deal was done, Iqbal took 6k, Mateyboy took 10k leaving Chip leader and winner (ish) as Ali Malu taking £11,200.

This is the praise thread (they deserve it) credit where it's due.

I'll slag them off about the payout structure elsewhere!

No probs, im going to keep out of it after getting a good telling off last time but I am a **** so I will just say the payout structure looks just as bad as the last comp there and we were told that things would change soon. I am glad that the comp was nice to play in and they certainly do seem to get good feedback for the playability and player comfort.

Oh and I forgot, well played mate. Ali Mallu scares the living daylights out of me. The first decent comp I played in I got to the casino nice and early and took me seat full of the joys of spring. I was reading an article in PokerinEurope about a fascinating comp at the Vic (think it was the Euro champs) and was looking at the pics and reading the report.

I then looked up and said hello to another player as he took his seat, looked back in the mag...then at the player again and there in the mag and on my table was Ali Mallu, he had just won about 90k I think it was in the Vic comp. Not a  good start to the night. He was terrific, I never knew where I stood in a hand. I was behind when i thought i was in front, in front when I folded and then to top it off Lawrence Gosney was moved to the table, what an introduction to the game that was. They must have won 80% of the pots between them.

Ali won the comp in the end and it was great to watch him play.

Ali was involved in at least 8 "Races" during the final, if he had the over cards, he hit, if he had the pair, they stood up.

You cant knock him though, he's always prepared to put his chips in

Nothing personal paul, when I'm writing insults, some people just spring to mind more quickly.

Which reminds me, Rhowena was there too, with the poker 425 cameras, I did another interview with her, I didn't think this one was very good, but Rhow insists that we keep doing them until one of us gets it right.

The monthly 300 f/o at Walsall is IMO the best regular tourny in the country.
The earlier start was a great success too,as everyone returning had made the money.
I hope they keep to the same start time from now on.
Congrats Danni and Team for another successful comp.

I forgot about the early start, I wondered why there were so few players at the end of the night.

Great decision by Dani and any1 else responsible for the earlier start time. Makes a big difference in my eyes, and I hope others follow suit.
