Title: Poker Puzzle Post by: Graham C on April 24, 2006, 12:19:42 PM Found this teaser on another forum and thought I'd share it. Apologies if it's been posted here before :)
Don't google it unless you want the answer as it's easy to find apparently - I haven't worked it out myself yet :D You're playing a pot with me heads up in Texas Hold 'Em. The turn card has been dealt and you currently have the best hand. However, no matter what card comes on the river, you can't win. What are the two hands and what is on the board? Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: moritzey on April 24, 2006, 12:37:26 PM something like AA v AA and the turn made it no straight draw, no flush draw - so it's a split pot no matter what?
Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: happybhoy on April 24, 2006, 12:38:11 PM Do split pots count as a win or not?
Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: Graham C on April 24, 2006, 12:53:18 PM Do split pots count as a win or not? dunno, good question, but I would expect its a winning hand, not a split pot - will confirm though something like AA v AA and the turn made it no straight draw, no flush draw - so it's a split pot no matter what? if both hands are AA, then you are not currently holding the best hand. Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: happybhoy on April 24, 2006, 12:56:53 PM If split pot doesn't count I'll take a stab in the dark with
A A A A 2 3 v 3 3 Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: Graham C on April 24, 2006, 01:00:22 PM both hands there have the same 3 high with four of a kind.

I think AA vs AA aswell..you have the best (starting) hand, No matter what comes out on river you cant win (if a win means takin the whole pot) so yes..AA vs AA Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: happybhoy on April 24, 2006, 01:03:54 PM Bugger - filed under 'Not answering until I've read the full question'

Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: jezza777 on April 24, 2006, 01:06:42 PM it isnt AA v AA you have the best hand at ther turn but cant win once the river is dealt. I saw this on another forum too but cant remember the answer!
Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: matt674 on April 24, 2006, 01:17:14 PM I'm holding 32, you are holding 22 - the board has paired twice (AAKK), i am leading but no matter what card comes i wont win the whole pot (i lose if the case 2 appears and split if any other cards but the two comes).
Or are we saying that split pots dont count? Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: thetank on April 24, 2006, 01:25:36 PM I think matt might be right. ;applause;
Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: moritzey on April 24, 2006, 02:22:29 PM what Matt said ;)

Title: Re: Poker Puzzle Post by: dino1980 on April 24, 2006, 03:05:57 PM Matt - your answer is correct but i read this originally on another forum and i think split pots count. The 'correct' example given there was you hold 7-2, opponent has 5-6. board is 3344, making 7 high the best hand at this point. any card that comes on the river eithe makes a straight or a split pot, meaning you can't win only split.

I'm thinking you have 62 of non-matching suits and opponent has 45 of a matching suit. Board has 733A, two of which are the same suit as your opponent's. If river is 7 through A, board is best hand and you tie. If river is of the matching suit, your opponent wins with a flush. If river is 6, your opponent beats your two pair with a straight. If river is 4 or 5, your opponent wins with two pair. If river is 3, board is best hand and you tie. If river is 2, your opponent beats your two pair with a straight.
