Title: Holding out for a hero
Post by: lazaroonie on April 28, 2006, 11:28:10 PM
Just wanted to mark my landmark (hero)  post with something a bit introspective.

As the saying goes I have been losing money playing cards long before it was fashionable. Mainly 5 card draw at school for smokes, progressing to some 7 card stud, and 3 card brag in my local pubs, before the pinnacle, playing the big game above the local chinese restaurant in Kingston , and sitting next to Jimmy Tarbuck. Winner takes all right enough. (Dont bother asking or looking for this game, it was in 1993).

About 6 years I found Late Night Poker, and then progressed to internet play. I played the odd game at my local casino, but there was something missing. That something quickly became apparant as a good understanding of what I should actually be doing. I started playing on the internet, and reading everything I could find about the game. The only site I new at the time was Ladbrokes, and after a shaky start, started getting some reasonable results on the sit and go games.

About a year ago I came to the conclusion that Online poker was dull , and I really wanted to get back to feeling the cards. I started playing some casino games, and a weekly pub based game which had over 80 runners per week.

Some reasonable success in these brought me to the conclusion that I had something to offer this game. No longer I considered myself just a regular donator, like in many other forms of gambling that I do. About this time, whilst looking for more information on the cincinnati club, I found the blonde poker website and forum. I quickly joined up, and devoured all the information I could get from it.

The strange thing was that this had a rather negative effect on my game. I came to this site, feeling pretty good about my acheivements, only to be confronted by regular posts from people who appeared to be killing these games live on a regular basis. I wouldnt be joking if I said it destroyed my confidence.

Eventually though, I realised that we are all at different levels in this game, and in fact that is part of the attraction of it. I can play Dave Colclough, Julian Thew, Simon Trumper, Malcom Harwood (a real highlight for me), etc etc, but better than that, I can occasionally get the better of them too.

My plans for 2006 have somewhat been de-railed. My plan was to play more online satellites to the UK circuit events, because my real passion is still live poker. The chat, the conflict, the maneovering, I just love it. Unfortunately work and business commitments have just overwhelmed me so far this year.

I have come to the conclusion that as someone who is supposed to have a 9-5 type job, playing live poker 4-5 nights a week really isnt practical. Therefore the plan has to involve taking advantage of the myriad of good value Multi table tournaments out there online somehow. I havent quite finalised this plan yet, but the plan starts with relieving a load of brummies of their english pounds at Mad Martys freezeout tomorrow night in glasgow  ;goodvevil;

Anyway, thanks for listening to my waffle.... Its been a great 6 months. Tank (or Bus) may have managed 4000 posts in the same timeframe, but I consider less to be more, and of better quality of course :)
