I have recently been playing some of the low buy in MTT's. there seems to be a lot of loose money, however i noticed that within the first hour i usually Build a great stack, then the inevitable happens, the cards go cold for a while and I feel the need to get a little busy to keep my stack in line with the other growing stacks. sometimes it works ok, other times well you know what it feels like to walk in to a monster.

I want to know what to do to remain patient, I seem to get edgy when my stack gets eroded, ( i refer you to my all in with  Ac Tc at BB2 ) How many blinds will you let go before you feel the need to regain some ground.

To be fair i have watched Red dog and Tikay allow some blinds to go with little or no fight only to see them make a great double up a few levels later when closer to the money and when it really matterd.

All hints,tips and advice will be appreciated.

FWIW Builly, I feel that, unless you really have a hand, peeps can take pops at my BB all night, I dont care. I play MY hands, in MY time, when I think I want to.

Play to YOUR rules, not theirs.

And always remember, first to act has a massive advantage.

This was always my big problem mate,

And believe me after watching Tikay and RED letting the blind stealers steal and then pounce when they actually have a hand has totally reformed my game and my results in the last month has been unbelievable for me,

Never had so many top 4 finishes and even won my 1st MTT a few weeks back.

i agree but like Junior says - its just common sense. Patience and Discipline are two key areas, especially in MTT play - its all about how you get yourself to concentrate on the task in hand.

As said above, Tikay and Red-Dog's patience in MTTs is something which really interests me. I was always of the opinion that if I just sat there and waited, then I wouldn't get paid off when I did get my premium hands. They can sit there nice and tight, yet still get action on their big hands. The fact that they do raises the question 'Are that many of our MTT opponents actually paying any attention?'.

In online MTTs, I have tried to make sure I concentrate more, right from the start; watching players and taking notice of their play. In the early to mid stages, am I just wasting my time? Would I be just as well off watching the Simpsons for the first hour or two whilst waiting for my big hands?

I definately believe patience is a virtue and its something I never thought I had much of.  However, over the past 2 weeks I have been trying to get myself more tuned in to the tourneys and only playing when I have decent cards.  Previously I was liable to build up a stack early doors and then blow it my trying to steal the blinds when I had nothing.  Over the past 2 weeks I have won 3 MTT's and final table another few - and I am actually showing profit.  I think you need to be balanced in your approach.  If playing online I find it much harder to keep my concentration as I can be easily distracted by the net, msn or what not.  When playing live I can easily pass marginal hands and let my blind pass and keep my focus as I can interact with other players.

I think, to steal a "tank expression" here, the negative implied odds of trying to steal blinds when they are still small relative to the chip stacks, should prevent you from trying to make too many moves.

I have been playing a few low byin mtt recently, this week i have won two so far, i have also been making places and getting my money back. I have changed the way i play, i dont think about stealing unless i need to, i try to build a stack and maintain it until the bubble time. I dont risk my chips anymore trying to steall at the bubble time, and busting out. I play the oppersite, i know they say that its easy picking up chips at bubble time, but just let the short stacks knock them self out, as tikay says, on your terms and your time.
