Title: Hand from Blackpool 300 freezeout
Post by: Bertpup on May 03, 2006, 06:06:36 PM
Hi there long time lurker here and i played in yesterdays 300pl freezeout in blackpool. This is the first time i've played in a comp of this buy in against good players. Had an interesting hands which i'm not sure if i played well or not.

I've just been moved to a new table which has notable famous faces on it Ali Mallu, Micky Wernick and the nugget Jones. I have been there for about 15mins and taken my stack from 10k to 15k. Blinds are 300-600

Che Hand

I have  Aspades 7d in the SB i have 15000 chips. Its folded around to the button who is Ali Mallu (stack of about 22,000)  who has been crazy agressive since i got there he flat calls, i make up micky wernick (stack of about 8,000) checks in the BB.

Flop comes down  Ahrt  8c 8d

I quite liked this flop and i decided to check as Mallu was not allowing any flops to get checked around, Micky Checked and Ali bet out 800. This is where i need help. I decided to flat call thinking i could get him to hang himself on the later streets. However Mickey raised another 2000.

Edit Ali quickly folded decision was back to me

Whats the right play from here? Also since i had been at the table this is the first time that i had seen him enter a pot

Did Ali call , fold, or raise? - As this affects your decision here.

Flat call by Ali or raise and I fold. If Ali folds I call the bet and check the turn and then see what Micky does

With no raise preflop he probably doesnt put anyone on an ace I flat call here and bet about 3400 on the turn whatever hits.

mickey has check raised here with a flat caller in the middle if it was heads up i would i play back at mickey but he has to know you have something so the only way he can make this play is with an 8 or a bigger ace or he thinks your good enough to fold an ace here when he bluffs

Micky is in the BB so it is quite possible he has the 8, he has also bet 1/4 of his stack into a guy that he knows will play any 2 cards and is extrememly dangerous (Mallu).
If you also factor in that Micky is actually a pretty tight player i would fold.

If he had an 8 why would he want to scare the agressive player off when he could string him along for more chips?

Because Ali Mallu is likely to call anyway, the guy is nuts!

beacuse ali maliu would call with any ace and he wants to get rid of the sb

why does he want to get rid of the sb with trips here . No way , it doesnt make sense

When the Ali makes it 800 to play, I would minimum raise the sb to 1600. Mickey will soon tell you if he has an 8. Any resistance by smooth call or reraise from Mickey and I am giving the pot up. Only 800 more than you put in to find out exactly where you stood. If Mickey passes and Ali just calls the 800, I then lead out big on any turn card (unless its an ace where I try and look p*ssed off that I have been outdrew and check ;))

Thats just how Mickey plays, i pass here.

Question is where were the good players in this comp....i didn't see any!

Sorry for the long time to reply. I decided to pass because i honestly had no idea where i was in the hand. I think my major mistake was that i didnt raise ali after he had first bet.

After i folded i showed the Ace and said i was giving Mickey too much credit hoping to get some info out of him. He told me that he had Ace 10 but was/still am a little dubious about that. I think he either had the 8 and recognised that i had the ace due to calling Ali or he had none of it and thought he could get me to lay my hand down (which he could).

The most annoying thing about this hand is that i have never given so much thought to any hand i have ever played and changed my opinion on it so much.

Mickey is more than capable of a move here. Folding is ok here you are out of position vs one of the best players in the tournament. You can wait for a better spot. I prob play it like you but might call the flop raise, played with Mickey quite a bit and have a fairly good line on his play most of the time :).

Best play though is to fold.
