Title: How much would you pay??
Post by: dan on May 04, 2006, 05:44:21 PM
Im going to paris in a couple of weeks for the champions league final and i am fortunate to have a ticket. there are 4 of us who have tickets, we are all season ticket holders and have all been successful getting one.

there is one more lad who sometimes comes with us who is not a season ticket holder and cant get a ticket. he has looked on the internet for one with no joy and it is being rumoured that they are going for £750- £1000 per ticket on the black market. As it happens we have a mate of a mate who has one of the "corperate" tickets and he has offered it to my mate for £250 which is not too bad. my mate snapped his hand off.

I just looked on ebay at tickets for the final and they are about £1500 per pair but this is with 5hours to go.

I think touts are cashing in on the fact it is our 1st champions league final.

If it was your team in the final for the 1st time would you be willing to pay these crazy prices?? how much would you pay these greedy tout bast****?

I'd pay no more than £300 for one 90 minute jolly, but am not as passionate as many.

There will be plenty of fans who will pay these prices

Affluent fan base, particularly amongst City boys etc
Not too far to travel so additional exes are controllable
In addition, big French contingent provides attractions for Parisians seeking tickets

Have no time for the touts myself, but you have to accept that they provide one of the most efficient pricing mechaisms to be found anywhere...very rarely are they left with excess supply after an event

If I couldn't afford the money, I would get out a loan to experience this match.

What an occasion, it's not like they will be there again... ;goodvevil;

That's a lot of money to watch your team get a hiding.

And before you come back with some witty remark Nemesis i'll have you know we took part in the 1993/94 Anglo-Italian cup where we finished 8th of 8 in Group A picking up 1 point after an away draw with Ancona!!!

So there!!  :D

 this kind of thing is wasting football

  football has always been a working mans game

 work all week , go watch your team on a saturday , go get pished afterwards etc

 now the prices of season tickets for big clubs and the prices touts are charging for big games are forcing the real football fans away from supporting their teams

 i think it is sad really

 i am a big big supporter of Celtic and if they got to the champions league final or even a couple of years ago for the uefa cup final i simply couldnt afford to go to these games as would most working men with families etc

  ;tk;

you make it sound much worse than it was Matt, strictly speaking we came 4th of 4 in english group A and we only missed 3rd place as we couldn't quite match boro's -6 goal difference over 4 games. And what chance did we stand in a group with Notts County?

Also don't forget we won our qualifying group finishing above both palace and millwall

I know squire but listing our greatest european victories as being Crystal Palace and Millwall is hardly going to pass as credible ;)!!

Sounds like you'll have a massive crowd there, do what a lot of Celtic fans did in Seville, meet the tout - smack him, grab the tickets & run into the crowd of your own fans (who would lynch a tout if they caught him).

I had 9 tickets for Celtic's UEFA final in my possession at one point (bought 6 at the 1/4 final stage). Every ticket went to someone I knew sacrificed a lot of their time & money to go see Celtic - and for not a penny more than face value. I couldn't even inflate the price to a Rangers fan - I just don't believe in it.

i totally agree with this big tom. when celtic went to seville the ticket prices were disgusting. i cant stand fans who sell their tickets on to other fans at a profit. its completely against the grain of the game. the folk that go to the games evey week should get the tickets but instead folk with lots of dosh end up getting them. its sick and very annoying

mad

I wouldn't pay that much.  With no ticket and if I wanted to go, I'd probably turn up in Paris and see if I could get one off a French Tout for less than a couple of hundred.   If not, I'd be happy sitting in a Paris bar, enjoying the atmosphere.

I know someone that paid 'a lot' for a ticket for Argentina v England over in Japan - he wouldn't tell me how much but when I asked if it was over a grand, he gestured that a grand would have been a nice price for him to have paid!!

I remember paying £25 for the final league match of Arsenal's 1970/71 season away at white shite lane.

It was a truly exorbitant price and I wonder how much it would be in today's money.

For those interested we won 1-0 to secure the league title and went on to win the double beating Liverpool 2-1.

Curiously the old goal average rule was in place and in that last match v Spurs 0-0 would have won us the title,

but 1-1 would have given the title to Leeds, so the goal that Ray Kennedy scored meant little.
