Title: Thunder and Lightning
Post by: Sark79 on May 04, 2006, 08:30:33 PM
We have had amazing Thunder and Lightning where I live.   I love thunderstorms.    Unfortunately dogs hate it.  I was out in the middle of nowhere when it started and got dragged all the way home by two freaked out dogs. Massive fork lightning straight ahead. Fantastic.

What have other areas been like?     For once the weather man was correct :D

Kilmarnock area.   It is still going on, really massive bangs.  The fork lightning has gone, but there is plenty of sheet lightning still.

No, never seen him. I am surprised, we only have four shops in the whole of Scotland.   :D

I was, apparently, born during a terrific thunderstorm and I adore them.

It's pretty heavy over this way, and feels like something is about to give.

No thunder or lightening yet tho!

Bet it does when I'm in the Casino and I miss it!!!!  lol

I never realised Scotland was such a big place.

My dogs freak out during thunderstorms and on November 5th.  During this time, I close all the windows, doors and put on ABBA Gold or Tom Jones greatest hits really loud.  From experience that music drowns out the sound of the bangs and my dogs can't hear it as much.  Dancing Queen is an old favorite of one of my dogs.  :D

I'm at my folks' house in Sanquhar Sark & the storm passed right over us. Fantastic to watch, but the dog's lying at my feet at the moment trembling. She's not allowed in this room, but we've not got the heart to eject her.

Major problem is there aws a lightning strike really close to the house & therer's a nasty smell of melted plastic & the Sky's off... bet it's not covered by the warranty either.

None in Rotherham at the moment ;)  I hate lightening.  My friends car got hit by lightening
about 10 years ago when she was driving it.  She was a very lucky lady that her car didn't blow up

Bejeezus that was awesome!

I've never heard thunderclaps like that before, watching from the landing I'm not too big too admit I shat it at one point and moved inside the door. Can't ever recall a storm like it. Still going for it good guns outside. I can guarantee that Glasgow Airport has the whitest check in queue in the world as I saw a plane coming in to land right through the middle of worst of it.

Who said global warming does have an upside

I just had a shower.  I was trying to remember the electric shower and Lightning rule my physics teacher taught me in school. :D.  The rain is almost like a monsoon(sp?) now. That should return things to normal.

Didn't this kind of thing happen in Flash Gordon?   Unfortunately if Dr Hans Zarkov straps me into a rocket, I won't be able to save the world like Flash did.  Ming will take over the Earth. Sorry folks.

did you remember it? was it 'don't take a shower when there's lightning outside? did you survive? shouldn't everyone have their computers turned off to prevent them blowing up when lightning strikes? I'm sure I read that somewhere

I love big storms, so much better than rubbish drizzle.

Not much chance of getting any down here in Kent though, we've had a scorcher all day and it's still too hot outside for long trousers

There was a great BBC series a few years back called 'Wild Weather'.  It was presented by Donal Mcintyre ( sp? ).  Some of the scenes in that were amazing. It is worth watching, I have the DVD.  Run a search for it on Mininova.

Sounds/looks as though it has just finished in Cambuslang. It was spectacular. I sat and watched it from the patio door. The missus wouldn't let me sit outside - was she right to do that? Discuss.

How wank is picture number 9?

Alistair Horton fae Sandyhills needs to try harder IMO, Personally I'd bump his sorry ass attempt at photography to numer 11. It's the storm picture that could be a novelty lamp for all I know.

Firm but fair, firm but fair.

I was in my backgarden in Cambuslang with the kids when it started, we stayed out for a while - their first lightning storm, then remembered that lightning doesn't just strike the tallest object nearby, so went back indoors.

Our Sky went off for 30 mins - we lived.

I heard that some guy in Rutherglen got trapped in a bus-stop by flash floods. How the hell do you get flash floods in Rutherglen? It's hardly the Grand Canyon!

I have some fantastic pictures of thunderstorms on my old lappy hard disk, sadly its corrupted, i dunno if i can recover them or not.....

I took loads when i was in the middle of a hurricane, now thats an experience! Puts the storms over here into context
