I love doc style TV shows if the content is interesting and for me this would be a great watch. To see how players prepare and cope with the full rigours of the wsop and how they wind down after a big win/loss and bounce back for the next event would be very informative.

ps. Some footage of Mr Cool playing golf for fortunes would be great too.

All we see is the glamour of these big events, and would be a real treat to see how a Real pro player acts around such a prestigious(sp?) event.

Basking in glory or throwing there toys around following a hard days graft and KO'd by that 2 outer would make superb T.V. ,  Or would it be streamed on the web??

 we would get hamm from "stagged" interhouse comps, this is all about REAL poker life, has to be real 8)

Sounds like this would be a funny insight in to the other side of the wsop, the stuff we dont see and how the major players wind down.

Unfortunately not Brian, I have not had a chance to play of late, had a bad run of luck and i was laid off work due to sickness, so poker has been on the back burner. I'm busy looking for someone to stake me lol.

As soon i start earning a decent crust I will have plenty of stories to report. :D

If i win my seat to the WSOP i'll see you in Vegas.

My only concern would be that the woman would only be there to look pretty and this would detract from the whole thing for me. Of course I could have misread the whole thing and you just meant som female poker players, which would be fine.

I think it could be enjoyable TV.

I like it . There was a programme where they followed some players around the cuircuit Carlo and Gary Bush I think . It went behind the scenes into their lives and I enjoyed it .

Poker Kings, thats was a great show, it really showed Phil helmuth Jr up for the donkey he is.

If only you guys know how the rookie really lives!!! This will be great entertainment. By the way, how many stripper poles in the house??

I think it sounds fun and I would watch it. I have my doubts if it will give a real insight into the real life of poker players because it will be an unusual situation for everyone in the house. Not that this is a bad thing though. I think it would be quite entertaining. I’m sure the network might jazz things up a little too.

If you are really interested in how a poker player prepares and conducts during the WSOP then I think a documentary following them around would be better. I don’t think that’s the aim of this show though?

As a guy who hates with a passion big brother, celebrity jungle guff, celebrity anything(dance , sing, pop idol) and wonders why tv time is given over to c or d list people who have nothing to offer

i have to say the opportuntiy to watch decent poker players during a wsop and see their pre and post play habits and catch the insight into how they play and handle the games i would be glued to the screen.

it would have to be open , honest and a true reflection of how it affected them...hell there me be some comic genius as well.

A VERY interesting idea Brian.  I'm sure most, if not all, poker players would watch this.  Even as Patman says,  people who hate "big brother" or reality tv shows would tune in like a shot.  Who wouldnt take up an opportunity of being able to see behind the scenes and behind the poker face of players.

I reckon if this goes ahead then a diary room type concept should be incorporated.  That would be cool (and hilarious if you hog it Brian).  Maybe two diary rooms.  One where you are ONLY allowed to tell Bad Beats (so people can skip that segment if they wish  :D)  and one where you can record your thoughts and feelings about anything WSOP related - or to slate other people in the house  8)

I quite like the idea (perhaps not for a whole bunch of shows, but a few) of giving an impression of the realistically tiring and sometimes slightly tedious poker players' life - there's nothing like watching people first thing in the morning eating Cheerios out of a box to dispel any romanticised images of any kind of lifestyle.

Also, people's personas 'away from the table' are often very different and, honestly, if people can watch "Luton Airport" they'll definitely be interested in the Poker House.

I think to try and get it aired and sold to as many countries as possible, you would need a range of different nationalities all trying to live together, so hows this for a line up

I'd be really interested to see the highs (of say someone winning an event), the monotony of 6 weeks of poker (it aint all glamourous when you aint playing well/winning) and I'd really like to see how the pros handle the real low points.

12 shows is a lot though!

As for the idea I would like to watch. My only concern is that away from the tables won't everyone want to sleep? The few times I turn on Big Brother everyone is asleep and nothing happens. I was also trying to work out the time zone as to when i am likely to watch and when will anythign be happening on the show?

no, everyone gets on different schedules based on which events they are playing and how far they go in each event, there is always alot of stuff going on away from the table, i dont think the show would lack content

How do you stop it becoming:

What could you put in the house to entertain the people in it and in turn entertain the people watching?, most poker players are pretty focussed on that, poker, and 99% of what they talk to each other about is poker, and poker conversations are mostly the same except for the people who you are playing and the particular cards at that time.
You need huge personalities (rules out the scandies :D) and a schedule of games or tests etc.
People like Marcel Luske and TonyG, Hellmuth etc. would sell it, because these are the people we want to see off table.
Crazy gamblers like Williamson III and their outrageous bets on stupid things.
It is a very interesting idea with a lot of potential, hope it comes off.

I dont know, you may still harbor hard feeling about the 4/7 from the blonde bash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 :goodpost: we have ideas to "liven" up the house, play a SNG to see who gets what room, who has garbage duty, stuff like that. As far as all poker all the time I can tell you that I do not have that problem. Also you have things like Mr. Cool and his GOLF game habit w/ the big boys, I dont think content will be a problem. Just ask Flushy, cupcake , and Bobby1, they all have great stories from some of the trips we have been on together :D

Wow. It looks like Brian has pulled this off... he has dound an investor to put the odd half million dollars or so to produce the show. However we need to sell it to the TV companies both sides of the Atlantic. What we need is more ideas for things to take place in the house.

We will be having a one table satelitte for who chooses which bedroom each week. I think we all know that you would like to see plenty of girlies in the house, but anyone else got any practical ideas on how to keep it interesting?....for 7 weeks !
We will try and get Marc Mr.Cool Goodwin in the house so we get to see some exploits from the golf course.

1 boring one...everyone must attend breakfast at least 5 days a week

Sounds to me like the more you 'spice' it up, the more it'll become a entertainment show rather than a documentary on poker players/life at the WSOP.  I'd really hate for this to become a poker variant of Big Brother/X Factor.

One thing I'm unclear of is whether this is intended to air in real time (i.e. during the WSOP) or afterwards.  The things you are talking about (SnG's for rooms, etc) are more suited to the real time, gimmicky format but, to me, this type of programme would work much better shown after the event as a proper documentary similar to Poker Kings, etc (although perhaps the offer to produce is based on the former format as that hasn't been done before).

Surely a group of well-financed gambling types sharing a house in Vegas can produce sufficient 'genuine' footage to make this a series worth watching without resorting to a host of gimmicks which are there merely to play to a TV audience.  The question is do you want it to be (and more importantly is the producer expecting) a documentary or something similar to Big Brother/Noel's House Party?

Hhmmm...good point. We don't want to become performing seals. It is definately meant to be more 'reality' based. However, just for example....
Mr Cool really does go out and play golf practically every day for anything between $20,000 and $200,000... that really happens and will happen this time
Brian really is a complete tornado. He really does drink fro 10 am in the morning and 'incidents' seem to just follow him around. I've probably met him about 30 or 40 times and these have included him wiing a bracelet, knocking out a policeman in Monte Carlo, becoming the most despised player on the 2+2 forum, becoming the most popular american on blonde, property deals, winning 50 garnd in 30 mins playing blackjack, not to mention lap dancing clubs, etc etc etc

I think it's just a matter of getting the right people in the house who are doing something interesting anyway. The likes of Marcel, Daniel N, Chris Ferguson and myself are not really ideal fodder because we will be a bit too focused on the poker. However, Mr Cool, Brian, a Mad Chef and some attractive girls may make interesting watching as they go though the highs and lows of 7 weeks in the Mecca

Erm we got a house for the world series with me,yoyo, womble Tony Chessa and Alistair Findlay and we are playing a stt when we get there to decide who gets the master bedroom etc. We also have a no strip club rule unless one of us cashes 6 figures or bigger. Are you reading are minds here ?(although admittedly your line up is much more interesting than our boring lot). Another rule we have is that if any of us win a bracelet we have to pay for a night out for the Team Total Poker boys (any of you who have ever been on the lash with Dpommo and Dubai will know how much this can cost) and vice versa (Johnie Walker Blue for me :) ). I would suggest you get this commisioned by Sky 1 ( a lot easier than you may think- I had a show commisioned a few years ago which ran every sunday night for 13 weeks) so you will get huge viewing figures rather than getting it on an obscure channel (if you need any help with this please PM me). Good luck with this boys and see you all out there.

Hee hee, ive just got over the last one........I would say that in my opinion good content isnt just about showing people celebrating a poker win, a good tourney or enjoying Vegas it should include the inevitable disagreements and sheer frustration that being in Vegas for that length of time could bring on.

If it is too much of a 'we are having great fun piece' it could come over as 'look at us, we are larging it up in Vegas' then there is the possibility that it will alienate some people and be almost a parody. A bit of a human touch( missing the family, having a  bad run, wanting to punch someone and the sheer emotional toll that playing these comps day after day brings) would give a good balance.....and Brian....you would have to be restricted to single figure Pina Colada's per day...........

Really like this idea, might actually start watching reality-TV for the first time ever then. Agree that you would need to spice things up a little, a few obvious things that would come to mind:

- follow one player each day through their tournament day, dunno if you can do stuff like showing hole-cards or something like that in retrospective, but maybe just get a few random highlights from the table (please, please, please get TonyG into this thing ..)
- maybe have a random novice in the house, too (how about a BPL tourney to decide on whom), who'll get stacked for a smaller tourney towards the end and gets the whole shebang with advice from the Pro's each night or something, basically a bit of a house (palace) protege. I think it'd make it more interesting because you could actually watch someone progress throughout the whole series, as well as seing the pros play (Let's face it, Blondie or Rookie aren't going to massively (visibly) improve in the four weeks or so that are the WSOP, at least not to the extent that viewers will be able to realise it ..).

1) Do you want to see "poker talk" as far as talking about hands after the fact or talking about strategy before a comp??
2) what do you NOT want to see?
3) Is it about the every day grind or is it about the biggest comp of the year?
4) House competitions good or bad?????
5) How many players would be enough?
6) Should there be guests staying in the house??????
7) How much personal stuff do you want? Fights w/ girlfriend, $$$$ troubles, being drunk???  Being stupid???

1) Yes - my main interest would be around how you all plan for 6 weeks solid poker.  How do you choose the events you will play?  Do you approach different Buy Ins in different ways ?  How do you learn from the failures ?  How do you react to the good days ? etc etc

2) For me non-poker related stuff.  This event has the eyes of the poker world upon it - let us see it from the inside.  But please not down to the level of "In our rank of hands we start with Ace High".

3) I assumed it was about being in the best condition you could be in for the biggest title of the year, and competing against the best players in the world - to make a living.  Isn't that your everyday ?

4) If real good. I assume you wont be able to show footage from actual events so would this not be the only way to get poker into the show ?  Couldn't you challenge other houses? (like the one Ariston mentioned)

5) Minimum 4 for serious Poker coverage - but 8 madmen wouldn't be to many.

6) Yes, Yes, Yes.  Me. I guess this is the chance to gain publicity - with names (celebs), but the idea of being a protege would get you alot of press in the poker world I am guessing.

7) I guess I want it 'warts and all'

No point talking about a challenge the houses section as my house is for serious players only who are going out there to work- none of this TV malarky. However if you fancy a game I am sure we could arrange something for one of the off days (ie non of us playing that days event). For me the show should be warts and all and fall outs with girlfriends/partners etc are part of every poker players life. I would also like to see some poker insight (and not just "this muppet cracked my aces with xx"). I look forward to seeing this show as people who have never tried to be away for any length of time playing poker don't realise how tricky it can be- they think its all strip clubs/bars and general partying. Good luck with this Brian and if you need any help feel free to drop me a line (the idea of a cook is a stupid one in my oppinion- simply get a player in who is a good cook, me and yoyo are splitting the chefing duties in our house).

IMO you need a WSOP newbie in the house, someone the viewers can relate to, show the nerves & stress they have playing in a major event. The dynamic between everyone in the house is vital if its to work & provide the drama & humour that makes good & interesting TV. No gimicks, thats just false. Keep it as real as possible.

Think the WSOP novice would definately be a good idea. Either by competition beforehand or simply by selecting someone (me! me! me! me!), whom the viewers could sympathise with. Where can I apply?

Amazing - who is honestly going to let you lot stay there.

Are you going to be able to set up fixed cameras in the house? People can be funny about this as it tends to involve screwing things into walls.

If you can't then you're relying on mobile camera crews which while it can appear more fluid tends to involve staging/reenacting a lot of situations as the crews can't be everywhere at once and this can remove a lot of the realism.

As for the catering, don't bother with a chef, just get yourself a film crew with a good catering company. I've spent a lot of time eating on film sets and some of the food that comes out of those catering wagons is superb, you won't need to bother with using your kitchen

If you are soliciting the idea to networks they are going to want more control.  Including WHO is allowed in the house.  Be prepared to hold firm or make adjustments. 

It is a great idea and obviously the poker craze is in full effect in the states so I see it as a great segway to all the other reality shows.  However, you need to look into the legality of it being "your" show and idea instead of being rejected and having a network do their own similar show.

Not sure how much research you have done on this, but you will need themes, character development and motivation, sub-plots, etc.  It won't be enough to just take it to the network and say we have a bunch of drunk, partying, gamblers that want to be on tv.

Great idea - that I really think could catch on, but make sure you develop it completely.

Quiet nights is all we will be having barring a big win or bracelet. We have made a pact this year and we will stick to it no matter what. You also need a cliffhanger, in BB there is something to play for, a prize at the end, a reason to be affable.

There are a lot of comps throughout  the life of the house, an online winner to enter the biggest comp each week + expenses + a week in the house.

This is gatheing speed nicely, & blonde will be following "The House" day in & day out, you will read about EVERYTHING from The House on blonde, from the residents.

The problem w/ a "name" player is the fact that they have alot of time and commitments already during the WSOP. The people in the house are making a big commitment to this project. Maybe I will post a poll on 10-12 people so everyone can vote. Not a popularity contest but a vote to see who people are interested in?????????????

My few Brian for what its worth would be DC (obviously already in), mr cool (one of the most amusing guys with soooo many gambling stories), Ram (prob best know over your side of pond from UK), Gus Hansen if you could get him (legened) and a few unknown quantities thrown in as well so as not too many egos. Some pretty players (sorry to the above mentioned) would be appreciated like Cici,Chilli etc. I look forward to seeing this Brian but as I said before until you've done docusoap you don't realise how much hard work it is. Anything mildly amusing that the camera crew misses they will want you to do it again (you just cant do some things again that were funny in the moment). Unfortunately mild conflicts will be made out to be world war 3 with clever editing and there are always certain characters that are edited to be a certain way-there is always the nasty one, the moody one, the excentric one,the one you would (Kev knows what I mean there) and the one who will never get any ever again after this lol.
Good luck with the project though and I hope we get it shown on British TV not just ESPN.

This may be a strange comment but it is something I say each time I happen upon watching a reality TV show, why would anybody want to live in a fishbowl for 6 weeks and give up all private time?

I see your point with BB style programmes where they not allowed to leave the house or interact with the outside world.  My personal circumstance is that I would be in Vegas anyway and what a way to do a first World Series!  In great company, in awesome luxury and what mentor's (or mentalists)  to have around you to pick their brains and get an insight into the REAL poker world.

Ontop of that - I would have sold my business by then, so I would have all the time in the world as an unemplyed bum  8)

Oh and btw Brian - Camera Showers?  NO

To be very honest the " concept" I came up w/ for a poker house was for the betterment on my poker game. When you are around great players and great minds it does have a positive impact on you 8)

When I was there w/ DC last year I know that there were times when I was in the "poker zone" because I was around great poker players.

The cameras and everything else are business, I just think it would be a great way to do business w/ some of the great people I have become friends w/ over the last 2 years.

Please dont think this is charity on any level. If you are involved w/ this project on any level you will have a great opportunity to have the experience of a lifetime 8)   

The bottom line is that I, Brian "Rookie" Wilson, have put my nuts on the choping block and we will see if I still have them after the 2006 WSOP.  ;goodvevil;

i think this is a great idea rookie finally someome can show the rest of the world that poker players are not just you average addicted gambler and that there is some skill it what we do (well i try to do) and as for the casting couch may i join you :P  hope the plan comes together
