Title: Fancy a Walk? Post by: Sark79 on May 05, 2006, 11:12:14 AM I heard this on the radio this morning while going to Uni and thought this guy had an odd hobby. :D
A guy called Karl Bushby is currently walking around the world. So far he has walked through fourteen countries and over seven mountain ranges. He has walked 17,000 miles and has been at it for eight years. He expects to be finished in four years time. He ran into some trouble after entering Russia due to not having the correct documents. There is an ongoing appeal that he is fighting against the Russian authorities to prevent his extradition. He said he hopes to get the support of Roman Abramovich who is a big player in the area. There is abit about Abramovich from this site http://www.1010wins.com/pages/25387.php? Here is the BBC news sites article on it http://www.bbc.co.uk/humber/content/articles/2006/04/07/bushby_russia_feature.shtml I don't want to hear any complaints next time its your turn to walk to the off-licence. :D Title: Re: Fancy a Walk? Title: Re: Fancy a Walk? Post by: Sark79 on May 05, 2006, 01:43:54 PM Could be down to the bus fares. :D
When I was about 14, I went on a cycling holiday up North. One day I met a nice old couple at a cafe. They invited myself and a friend back to their house that evening for dinner. It was a really good night and they were good people. When I was at their house their granddaughter was also staying. She was about twenty and had been injured in a horse riding accident a few months earlier. She told us she was currently finding sponsorship to take an 18 month walking trip round Europe promoting her charity. She was going to start from her Grandparents house and walk through as many countries as she could afford. I often wonder how she got on and wish I had been older so I could have given her a better contribution for her trip. The thing that always sticks in my mind about the house was their five pet geese they had in the front garden. |
