Title: O/T wish me luck
Post by: AdamM on May 05, 2006, 09:44:59 PM
I'm stepping in the ring tomorrow for the first time in about 9 years. Last time I fought in a ring I was a relative novice and although I've taken part in friendly comps on a mat it's not the same as stepping through the ropes. The other big difference is this time I'm the instructor and aswell as worrying about my own fight I'm cornering 5 students in their first fights. I think I'm more nervous about that part than my own fight.

maybe hes still layed out in the ring.

He looks pretty big it would take a few of blokes to carry him out.

what are you on about bolt?

good trip. contact was supposed to be 'light' but first two bouts were bordering on full contact. it improved by the time my lads fought which was quite a relief since two of them had only been training 7 weeks. the opponent 'novice' fighters had been training much longer than we had been led to believe. My guys put up a good fight but all four lost on points. They had no like sized opponent for me so on the end of the card I got three rounds with the host instructor. I gave away 4 stone in weight and 6 inches in height so it was a tough fight for me. inevitably the judges gave the fight the other way but a good close fight.

It was the first time I'd met this group of fighters but if anyone in London is looking for somewhere to train I can thoroughly recommend them they're called the British Martial Arts Institute (BMAI) and their address is 1-4 pope street (just south of Tower Bridge). www.bmai.co.uk I just had a quick look at the site and watching video clip of the guy I fought I'm pleased I managed to test him. looks quite handy but I put him on the canvas once and I didn't get knocked down myself.

well, everyone wanted to know the result and with no response forthcoming i couldnt resist. :D

i did partialy expect the old one puch no contest sort of turn out for your reply but it was as honest as it was informative.

well done done mate, sounds like you still had it even though the fella had you for weight and hieght.

oh no, he was much better than me, even without the weight and height advantages. given me a lot to work on. In the street we can't pick the size of our attacker so martial artists have to train and spar with all sized opponents. I doubt many boxers would consider fighting an opponent 8 stone heavier than themselves but I do every week. I usually still get the better of heavier sparring partners but the guy I was fighting was a proffessional fighter and used his advantages well.

I didn't post on saturday because it was an all day 250 mile round trip.

thanks for the support.
